As a drummer held in high regard on the international Hard Rock circuit, John Macaluso was initially directly inspired by Joe Franco, of the GOOD RATS, before subsequently taking instruction under the wings of Rod Morgenstein, of DIXIE DREGS, WINGER and ZENO, Dom Famularo and the BLACK OAK ARKANSAS, WHITESNAKE and OZZY OSBOURNE credited Tommy Aldridge. At aged 18 Macaluso reloacted to California to attend the Percussion Institute of Technology, studying under Ralph Humphrey, Casey Schuerelle, and Joey Heredia. That same year, Macaluso was hired for his first tour as well as recording with guitarist Paul Hansen in Germany.

Soon afterwards the drummer met Italian guitarist, ALEX MASI. This union commenced in 1987, Macaluso appearing on several of Alex’s solo records, such as 'Vertical Invader' and 'Late Nights At Deserts Rim Rock'. The duo would then go on to record with bassist Randy Coven to form the trio MCM, Masi, Coven, Macaluso. MCM released the studio album, 'Ritual Factory' and its live counterpart, 'MCM Live 1900 Hard Times'.

Macaluso joined POWERMAD in the late 1980’s and released 'Absolute Power' through Warner Bros. Records. His next move was to join Norwegian high profile band TNT, recording three sets, 'Realized Fantasies', 'Three Nights In Tokyo' and 'Firefly', until the group's demise in 1992. Returning to the USA, his next port of call was veteran Hard Rock outfit RIOT, replacing Bobby Jarzombek. Extensive touring led to the studio album 'Brethren Of The Longhouse'.

This union, rounded out by vocalist Jørn Lande, bassist Randy Coven and keyboard player Mats Oloussen, produced a Latin flavoured Progressive Rock act branded ARK. Two albums saw release, 'Ark' and 'Burn The Sun'. Macaluso was then to enrol into the ranks of the YNGWIE MALMSTEEN band to record the 'Alchemy' album. This tenure lasted for three more studio albums and a total of four years on the road with the Swedish guitar God. Macaluso then reunited with former ARK members to write and record music until the band’s split in 2003, after which he spent a short time touring the USA with guitarist GEORGE LYNCH.

His next port of call was the 'Elements Of Persuasion' album recorded by DREAM THEATER frontman JAMES LABRIE. Touring followed to promote the record. With ujis name now a significant force of the global percussive stage, the tuition book 'Repercussions' gave Macaluso his first taste of a solo career. Further high profile unions included drum duties for STARBREAKER and with VITALIJ KUPRIJ, featuring on the albums 'Vitalij Kuprij’s Revenge' and 'Galacial Inferno'.

Finnish imprint Lion Music proposed a solo album, which emerged under the brand JOHN MACALUSO AND UNION RADIO as 'The Radio Waves Goodbye'.
