Biography

New York's AGNOSTIC FRONT date back to 1980 and debuted with the heavily Hardcore influenced 'Victim Of Pain' album. Strangely a lot of the lyrical content of this album was the work of CARNIVORE's Pete Steele. The initial recording line-up comprised the heavily tattooed front man Roger Miret, guitarists Vinnie Stigma and Alex Kinon, bassist Rob Kabula and drummer Louie 'Raybeez' Beatto.

Guitarist Alex Kinon departed after the release of 1986's 'Cause For Alarm' to have his position filled by ex-NYC MAYHEM guitarist Gordon Ancis. AGNOSTIC FRONT added drummer Joe 'Fish' Montanero at this juncture. Ancis having left to form ZERO HOUR, a short-lived act that also involved singer Joe Haggerty, ex-WHIPLASH drummer T.J. Scaglione, former MASSACRE guitarist Robbie Goodwin and DEATHRASH bassist Pat Burns.

Vinnie Stigma also quit shortly after but returned to record 'Liberty And Justice' as the band completely re-evolved itself. AGNOSTIC FRONT drafted Alan Peterson bass guitar, drummer Will Sheplar and ex-STRAW DOGS guitarist Steve Martin. However, the album, produced by Norman Dunn and Alex Perialas, was overshadowed by Miret's imprisonment on drug charges.

AGNOSTIC FRONT added ex-SMEGMA, MAYHEM, YOUTH OF TODAY and REST IN PIECES bassist Craig Setari, coming into the fold after recording of the album on which Alan Peters performs drum duties. Montanero had joined British Punks GBH for their 1992 record 'Church Of The Truly Warped'.

The 1992 Don Fury produced album 'One Voice', recorded with guitarist Matt Henderson, has a central theme based on Miret's two year sojourn in prison. Reaction to the album was muted and by late 1992 AGNOSTIC FRONT had splintered yet again. Stigma, Sheplar and Henderson soon had MADBALL up and running whilst Miret opted for a day job as a motorbike mechanic. In a surreal twist of fate Miret broke his back within month's stage diving at a show by his younger brother's band. Eventually Stigma opted out of MADBALL to concentrate on family life.

AGNOSTIC FRONT was drawn together in 1997 quite by coincidence when Miret and Stigma were invited onstage to jam at a MADBALL show. With MADBALL guitarist Hoya handing his guitar over to Miret AGONSTIC FRONT were reunited. Kabula was drawn away from his act AGAINST THE GRAIN for the reunion.

Miret guested on RANCID's 1998 album 'Life Won't Wait' guesting on two tracks. RANCID returned the favour when Tim Armstrong and Lars Fredericksen showed up on AGNOSTIC FRONT's 'Something's Gotta Give' album. That same year leading Industrial Metal band FEAR FACTORY covered 'Your Mistake' for inclusion on their limited edition 'Revolution' album.

1999 found Miret guesting on the track 'Faster Than The World' on fellow New York Hardcore mongers H20's 'FTTW' album. The singer also produced the debut album from UNDER THE GUN. Meanwhile, AGNOSTIC FRONT released a three track single 'Puro De Madre' all sung in Spanish and their first album for Epitaph 'Something's Gotta Give'.

By 2000 Sheplar had created AMONG THIEVES with erstwhile LIFE OF AGONY bassist Alan Robert and SPUDMONSTERS man Scott Roberts. Roger Miret turns up with his kin Denise Miret on the 2000 album by LADY LUCK 'Life In Between'. By 2002 drummer Jimmy Colletti, acting as lead vocalist, was touting his new side project LOVED AND HATED, a union with SON OF SKAM guitarist Larry Nieroda and MINOR DISTURBANCE drummer Mike Reese.

AGNOSTIC FRONT, supported by ASSERT, would tour Britain in July of 2002. The band revealed an impressive package tour of Europe, dubbed the 'Eastpack Resistance' dates, during November and December. Co-headlined with BIOHAZARD the pair topped a billing of HATEBREED, DISCIPLINE, ALL BORO KINGS, DEATH THREAT, and BORN FROM PAIN. The band announced touring plans for 2003, participating in THE MISFITS led 'Misfits Fiend Fest' US dates in June alongside THE DAMNED, THE DICKIES, BALZAC and D.I. Yet more gigs that same month had the band forming up part of the 'Jailhouse Rock' trek alongside BIOHAZARD, HATEBREED, THROWDOWN and FULL BLOWN CHAOS.

In the Spring of 2004 a new album with the working title 'Another Voice' was recorded at Planet Z studio in Massachusetts with HATEBREED's Jamey Jasta acting as producer. The studio line-up comprised vocalist Roger Miret, guitarists Vinnie Stigma and Lenny DiSclafani, bass player Mike Gallo and Steve Gallo on drums. In August the band signed to Nuclear Blast Records. A promotional video for the song 'Peace', directed by director Dale "Rage" Resteghini, would see a guest inclusion from former AGNOSTIC FRONT guitarist Matt Henderson with Scott Vogel of TERROR and Karl Buechner from EARTH CRISIS and FREYA also making their presence felt.

On 7th November AGNOSTIC FRONT filmed their performance at New York's at the legendary CBGBs club for their first DVD collection. The group scheduled US gigs in alliance with HATEBREED, DIECAST, LOVE IS RED and THE AUTUMN OFFERING for the second leg of the 'Heavyweights Of Hardcore' tour in January 2005 prior to European dates. Back on the road in April, AGNOSTIC FRONT headed up a billing combining MARTYR A.D., LOVE IS RED and ALL SHALL PERISH before forming up with HATEBREED for South American gigs in the Summer. The band, having parted ways with guitarist Lenny Disclafani and pulled in Joseph James of INHUMAN in his stead, then undertook a European package tour billed 'Persistence' co-billed with HATEBREED, NAPALM DEATH, BORN FROM PAIN, THE RED CHORD and BLEED THE SKY. Roger Miret made studio time to guest session on German Hardcore band MAROON's 'When Worlds Collide' album.

AGNOSTIC FRONT announced their 2006 season of live campaigning with US dates in March sharing stages SHADOWS FALL, STILL REMAINS, and BYZANTINE.

In September 2008 I Scream Records has announced the signing of Vinnie Stigma's first solo record, 'New York Blood'. For these sessions, branded under the band title STIGMA, Stigma was joined by guitarists Josh Tilotta and the SHRAPNEL and BLITZSPEER credited Phil Caivano, AGNOSTIC FRONT bassist Chris Gallo and the ROGER MIRET AND THE DISASTERS credited drummer Luke Rota.
