Biography

New Jersey Hard Rock act formed by guitarist Doug Gordon. TANGIER's debut album, a self-titled effort, appeared through the Wolfe label founded by then manager Brian Kushner in 1986 Wolfe's only other release's would be a cassette album from the Kushner managed BRITNY FOX a year later and another from IVORY TOWER in 1988.

Gordon and Mattson would ultimately split from Kushner in less than amicable circumstances and virtually disown the album One-time TANGIER drummer Adam West would play with BRITNY FOX although would be replaced by Johnny Dee before the band recorded for Columbia.

TANGIER signed to Atco Records after CINDERELLA's Tom Keifer had tipped off A&R head honcho Derek Shulman (Keifer also convinced manager Larry Mazer to take them on board as well!) and released an Andy Johns produced debut entitled 'Four Winds' in June 1989.

Gary Nutt had previously played with JEAN BEAUVOIR and an early version of DIVING FOR PEARLS.

The group split with Bill Mattson in 1990 as they commenced work on the 'Four Winds' album, Mattson unhappy with the direction as he preferred a Blusier sound. He was replaced by Mike LeCompt who had been the group's original singer before being ousted in favour of Mattson before the first album. Mattson joined Swedish act MOTHERLODE.

After the demise of both TANGIER and CINDERELLA Doug Gordon teamed up with Tom Keifer on a project that never got beyond the demo stage.

Gary Nutt was playing with ex-WHITE LION and FREAK OF NATURE vocalist MIKE TRAMP on the Dane's acoustic slot on the LYNYRD SKYNYRD arena tour during the Summer of 1998. During 2000 found drummer Bobby Marks as part of ARABIA for the album '1001 Nights'.
