New Jersey Metal band PHANTOM'S OPERA have an exceedingly long history, keyboard player Jack Young having first founded the band with Alec John Such in 1969 at the age of just 13. The original line-up of the band featured Alec John Such on bass and Hector "Tico" Samuel Torres on drums. The latter held a tradition with Motown stars the MARVELETTES and had also played with PAT BENATAR back in her cabaret days. Dean Fasano was a former vocalist with the band before he joined MESSAGE and PROPHET and he had been responsible for RICHIE SAMBORA also playing with the group at one stage. Such and Torres moved on to a greater profile with BON JOVI, the drummer enjoying an interim stop with FRANKE AND THE KNOCKOUTS whilst Such put in a tenure with MESSAGE.

Young is said to have resisted overtures to join BON JOVI in the early 80's to stick with PHANTOM'S OPERA. Although as Jon Bon Jovi was already good friends with David Bryan it might be that Young was asked at a point when Bryan was not in a position to commit his future to Jon's project at the time.

The band also featured Michael Romeo on guitar, who would later go onto international acclaim with SYMPHONY X. PHANTOM'S OPERA issued an independent, ten song debut album in 1991. The line-up for the self-titled debut was Sayreville vocalist Coleman Brice, guitarist Michael Romeo, bassist Eric Walz, keyboard player Jack Young and Bob Nelson on drums. Both Brice and Walz had formatively featured as members of GEMINI. Four years later, the debut was re-issued on the German Long Island label, with alternate cover art, a re-arranged track sequence and four bonus tracks. The debut was re-issued once again in 1999, this time with eight extra tracks, four being previously found on the 1995 reissue.

Bobby Gilmartin joined PHANTOM'S OPERA for the recording of the third album 'Following Dreams'. The band's debut was re-issued in 1999 with extra tracks.

Guitarist Karl Cochran would join ACE FREHLEY's band for live work and create a new act VOODOOLAND in 2000. During March 2002 PHANTOM'S OPERA announced their new vocalist as being TERRY BROCK, a singer of high repute citing credits with KANSAS and STRANGEWAYS. A new studio album, 'Act IV', was scheduled for February 2003 release through Escape Music. Meantime ex-members Bob Gilmartin and Dave Garcia returned touting a fresh act NEW MACHINE.

Brock partnered with former CITY BOY, STREETS and STEELHOUSE LANE British guitarist Mike Slamer for the 2006 SLAMER album 'Nowhere Land'.
