Biography

Bergenfield, New Jersey, tongue in cheek Hardcore based Rockers MUCKY PUP, founded during 1985, featured the Milnes brothers, singer Chris and drummer John, ex-HADES bass guitarist Scott LaPage and guitar player Danny Nastasi. Opening demo cassettes included 'Live And Mucky' and 'Greatest Hits'. A local support gig to TRIXTER at the Paramus roller rink in 1986 secured the attention of Torrid Records. MUCKY PUP signed to the US label, who arranged a European license through Roadrunner Records. It would be in Europe that MUCKY PUP achieved their greatest commercial success.

MUCKY PUP's debut album, 'Can't You Take A Joke?', arrived in 1987. The group also won a song writing competition for the comic strip 'Bloom County', submitting the track 'U-Stink-But-I-♥-U'. This song, credited to fictional act BILLY & THE BOINGERS, was included on a magazine flexi-disc. However, LePage took his leave from the band and Dave Neabore was installed on bass.

Second opus 'A Boy In A Man's World' recorded at Nevessa Productions in Saugerties, New York, for which noted comic book artist Nelson DeCastro rendered the sleeve artwork, was delivered in 1989. A promotional video was filmed for the re-recorded 'U-Stink-But-I-♥-U'. Once the album was released, Nastasi left the band to forge NON-FICTION with ex-HADES personnel. Nastasi subsequently teamed up with MURPHY'S LAW.

Sean Kilkenny was drafted for European touring. Unfortunately the group splintered yet again, Neabore and Kilkenny both opting out to create DOG EAT DOG, this outfit fronted by MUCKY PUP roadie John Connor. Danny Nastasi made a return, working in parallel with both MUCKY PUP and DOG EAT DOG.

MUCKY PUP's 1990 album 'Now' featured guest appearances from the BIOHAZARD pairing of Evan Seinfeld and Billy Graziadei. A video clip, 'Hippies Hate Water', was filmed but did not achieve great rotation. A touring campaign witnessed support shows to BAD BRAINS, SCATTERBRAIN, MURPHY'S LAW, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, PRIMUS and GWAR. However, with Nastasi touring with DOG EAT DOG, the band pulled in substitute six-stringer Splatter. After a brief period with the band, Splatter was replaced by Terry.

In 1991 MUCKY PUP contracted with German label Century Media for the album 'Act Of Faith'. Again the band had shifted shape, now seeing Chris LaPlante (a.k.a. 'Junior') on bass guitar and the ARTICULATE VIOLENCE credited Kevin Powers introduced on keyboards. Videos were shot for the songs 'Freakin' At The Peepshow' and 'Mr. Hand'. Nastasi then stepped down once again, relinquishing his position in both bands to prioritise his act #9. Before long though he would be pursuing a solo career, signing to SPV Records fronting the band NASTASEE, which utilised musicians from MUCKY PUP and DOG EAT DOG. This project released a brace of albums in Europe, 'rim The Fat' and 'Ule Tide'.

The line-up for 1993's 'Lemonade' on Century Media counted only vocalist Chris Milnes as a surviving founder member. Other musicians involved included drummer John Milnes, guitarist Glen Cummings, bassist Marc DeBacker and keyboard player Kevin Powers. A European only concert release, 'Alive & Well', emerged in 1994.

DeBacker would later shift from bass to guitar to replace Nastasi in DOG EAT DOG in 1996.The MUCKY PUP album issued that year, 'Five Guys In A Really Hot Garage', saw the inclusion of THE BEAST guitarist Jack Pitzer. The band changed shape for touring, bringing in bassist Bill Bergmann.

In 2001 a MUCKY PUP / DOG EAT DOG union entitled ALL BORO KINGS emerged citing a line-up of Dan Nastasi, guitarist Sean Kilkenny, bass player Dave Neabore and BLOODHOUND GANG drummer John Milnes. MUCKY PUP reunited in mid 2002 for a one off gig, utilising DOG EAT DOG's Dave Neabore on bass.

MUCKY PUP revealed plans for a 25th anniversary European tour, the band announced as comprising vocalist Chris Milnes, drummer John Milnes, guitarist Danny Nastasi, bassist Marc DeBacker with Kevin Powers on keyboards.
