Biography

JOHN 5 (a.k.a. John Lowery) had journeyed through a succession of Hard Rock acts, raising his profile throughouts outfits such as BONE ANGEL, the DAVID LEE ROTH band and Rob Halford's TWO before enrolling into the ranks of MARILYN MANSON's band unit for a six year, high profile tenure.

Born in Grosse Point, Michigan on 31st July 1971, the guitarist assumed the John 5 tag upon joining Marilyn Manson's band in 1998 as replacement for Zim Zum (Timothy M. Linton).

Upon his departure from the Manson camp the guitarist crafted the solo 'Vertigo' album, released in August 2004 through Mike Varney's Shrapnel labeland co-produced by Billy Sherwood. Studio participants comprised keyboard player and programmer Kevin Savigar, former HURRICANE drummer Jay Schellen, bass player Bob Bartell and drummer Graham Ward.

John 5 debuted his new band, entitled LOSER, on 15th November 2004 at the Roxy in West Hollywood. This unit featured JIBE singer Joe Grah alongside fellow Texan musicians bassist Charles Lee and drummer Glendon Crain. Signing with Island Records, LOSER debuted to the public with the song 'Disposable Sunshine' featured on the soundtrack to the hit movie 'Fantastic Four'. At this juncture Crain briefly left the band and was substituted by drummer Elias Andra of PSYCHO PLAGUE. However, despite promotional photos being taken with Andra, this latest recruit was swiftly replaced by a returning Crain.

A debut LOSER album, 'Just Like You', was announced for release on 18th June 2006. However, John 5 had joined the ranks of ROB ZOMBIE's live band, previously appearing for the Summer 2005 'Ozzfest' concerts. 2006 US touring with Zombie's band caused conflict with LOSER, forcing John 5 to vacate his position, and Island Records duly dropped the band, despite the single 'Nobody Knows' already being serviced to radio, and shelved the album.

A September 2005 follow up solo outing, 'Songs For Sanity' also put out by Shrapnel Records, featured guest guitar spots from STEVE VAI and Blues legend ALBERT LEE. Bass was supplied by Larry Klein and Josh Jones with drums courtesy of Rodger Carter and Aaron Rossi. In 2006 the guitarist contributed to the track 'Where Angels Dare' on KISS frontman PAUL STANLEY's solo album.

John 5 featured on a metalized version of THE BEATLES 'Back In The USSR' for the Restless Records tribute album 'Butchering The Beatles' released in October, this track also involving Lemmy of MOTȪRHEAD plus KISS and ALICE COOPER drummer Eric Singer.

2006 album recordings for Shrapnel Records, billed 'The Devil Knows My Name', would feature guest appearances from Matt Bissonette, James Root on 'Black Widow Of La Porte', Eric Johnson on 'The Washing Away Of Wrong' and JOE SATRIANI, on 'The Werewolf Of Westeria'. Drums wewre supplied by Sid Riggs and Tommy Clufetos. It was reported that OZZY OSBOURNE and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist Zakk Wylde was also set to appear, but this did not transpire.

The entire album was built upon a concept of serial killers, referencing Albert Fish, on '27 Needles' and 'The Werewolf Of Westeria', Belle Guinness in 'Black Widow Of La Porte', Danny Rollings with 'Harold Rollings Hymn', Ed Gein in 'Dead Art In Plainfield' and David Berkowitz on 'July 31st (The Last Stand)'.Within this context John 5 also positioned cover versions of GUNS N' ROSES 'Welcome To The Jungle' and CHET ATKINS' 'Young Thing'.

In March 2007 it would be learned the guitarist had collaborated on songs with both LYNYRD SKYNYRD and the SCORPIONS. His fourth solo opus, 'Requiem', was to hit stores in July 2008, a Bluegrass infused Industrial set produced by Chris Baseford. Tommy Clufetos again contributed drums.

For an appearance at the 'Quart' festival on 30th June 2009 in Kristiansand, Norway, John 5 joined former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash's live band alongside Jason Bonham, of LED ZEPPELIN, UFO, FOREIGNER and BONHAM, on drums, Chris Chaney, of JANE'S ADDICTION, on bass, Franky Perez, from SCARS ON BROADWAY, on additional guitar and Teddy Andreadis, of GUNS N' ROSES and ALICE COOPER, on keyboards.

July saw John 5 in songwriting collaborations with erstwhile SKID ROW singer SEBASTIAN BACH.
