Biography

Inspired by METALLICA's first ever visit to Boston in 1983, MELIAH RAGE was formed by guitarists Jim Koury and erstwhile GANG GREEN man Anthony Nichols. Koury had previously played in an AEROSMITH tribute group in partnership with STEEL ASSASIN axeman Mark Schulman, better known as MARC FERRARI of KEEL infamy. The line-up had stabilised by 1986 with the addition of vocalist Mike Munro, bassist Jesse Johnson and drummer Stuart Dowie. The band name was a progression from the moniker of one of Koury's earlier bands MELIAH CRAZE.

After releasing a promising three track demo in 1987, MELIAH RAGE was picked up by Epic Records and debuted in 1988 with 'Kill To Survive'

The 1989 live album, 'Live Kill', was a one sided affair recorded at Harpo's club in Detroit. Micah Shevaloff contributes keyboards to the 'Solitary Solitude' album.

By 1996 MELIAH RAGE included drummer Dave Barcus and former WARGASM bassist Bob Mayo in the ranks. The band still remained active and released a fifth album called 'Unfinished Business' on their own label in 1999. The album contained unreleased material recorded between the years 1992 and 1996. By this point Barcus and Mayo had been replaced bassist Clark Lush and former STRIP MIND drummer Sully Erna. The latter of course would go on to enjoy huge fame as frontman for platinum artists GODSMACK. With GODSMACK's continued success the 'Unfinished Business' record was re-issued in late 2002 with alternate art. The 'Unfinished Business' album has since been reissued again in 2004 as a bonus disc on certain pressings of the 'Barely Human' album. The band in interviews in 2005 distanced themselves from the 1999 recording suggesting it was never intended to be a formal release.

MELIAH RAGE were still operational during 2002, recording a new studio album 'Barely Human' for Screaming Ferret Records. Alongside original members Anthony Nichols, Jim Koury and Jesse Johnson the new look band saw newcomers Paul Souza on vocals and ex-WARGASM drummer Barry Spillberg.

Prominent shows in October 2004 saw appearances at 'The Metal Nation: Northern Aggression' festival in Manchester, New Hampshire and the 'Sayonara Summer Fest' in Bellingham, Massachusetts. With original drummer Stuart Dowie making a return to the ranks, MELIAH RAGE entered Danger Multitrack Studios in Providence, Rhode Island to record a new album 'The Deep And Dreamless Sleep' in February 2005. The album surfaced in the USA in September 2006 on Screaming Ferret Wreckords.

MELIAH RAGE were announced as support to METAL CHURCH's January 2007 US tour dates. However, Paul Souza exited the band towards the end of the year. 'The Deep And Dreamless Sleep' was released in Europe in July 2007.

MELIAH RAGE, having announced the return of the band's original frontman, Mike Munro, completed work on a new album at The Outpost in Stoughton, Massachusetts for a release via Screaming Ferret/Metro City Records. The album was mastered at the end of November by producer Rich Spillberg. 'Masquerade' was released on 28th July 2009.
