Biography

GRIP INC is most noted for their inclusion of ex-SLAYER drummer DAVE LOMBARDO, a man who whilst with his former unit often topped the 'best drummer' polls in magazines for many years. His relationship with his erstwhile band mates in SLAYER was known to be fragile and his departure was no surprise. However, it took a few years to re-emerge with GRIP INC.

The band also feature British ex-SQUAD and 21 GUNS vocalist Gus Chambers, former HEATHEN bassist Jason Vie Brooks and ex-VOODOOCULT guitarist Waldemar Sorychta. Lombardo had met Sorychta whilst laying down drums on a VOODOO CULT album as special guest. A fledgling version of GRIP INC. also included ex-OVERKILL guitarist Bobby Gustafson but his tenure was a brief one. Promoting the band's second album, 1997's 'Nemesis', the group undertook a headline tour of the UK that June backed by SKINLAB and KILL II THIS.

Lombardo later enjoyed a stint with TESTAMENT and issued a solo album, the pseudo classical 'Vivaldi'. The drummer would also forge FANTÔMAS with ex-FAITH NO MORE singer Mike Patton. Vie Brooks formed part of the 2000 HEATHEN reunion.

During early 2003 Waldemar Sorychta, Gus Chambers and DAVE LOMBARDO reconvened to discuss plans for a fresh GRIP INC. album. The drummer faced a hectic schedule that year, recording drums for two separate FANTÔMAS albums as well as a new SLAYER opus. Meantime former GRIP INC. guitarist Bobby Gustafson resurfaced in a the South Florida based band RESPONSE NEGATIVE.

GRIP INC. returned in 2003 to cut a new album for SPV Records entitled 'Incorporated'. In early 2004 Lombardo also put in a recording session for the soundtrack to the remake of the splatter film classic 'Dawn Of The Dead'. Gus Chambers would prove active with his Punk act SQUAD 21, issuing the album 'Skullduggery' through Go Nuts Music.

Gus Chambers replaced the late Andy Allendörfer as SQUEALER frontman in April 2005. Former bassist Jason Vie Brooks returned to the scene with Cincinnati, Ohio based THE ALLKNOWING.

Former GRIP INC. vocalist Gus Chambers passed away on 13th October 2008 at the age of 52. Chambers, who was residing in Coventry, England, and fronting Punk band MANTRA SECT, reportedly took his own life.

In 2009 Jason Vie Brooks forged LORENZO, a modern rock band featuring vocalist Marko Lorenzo in alliance with drummer Steve Jacobs, of FORBIDDEN and MANMADEGOD, and guitarist Ira Black, from VICIOUS RUMORS, LIZZY BORDEN, HEATHEN and METAL CHURCH.
