Biography
THE CHARIOT is a Southern tinged, Christian Metalcore outfit out of Douglasville, Georgia, fronted by ex-NORMA JEAN vocalist Josh Scogin. The singer had spectacularly quit NORMA JEAN at the height of their success with the 'Bless The Martyr And Kiss The Child' album, announcing his withdrawal onstage at the 'Furnace Fest 2002' event in Birmingham, Alabama in a move which stunned both the audience and his previously unawares band mates.
THE CHARIOT, the band title inspired from the biblical story of Ellijah being taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire, first assembled by Scogin included guitarists Keller Harbin and Tony 'Taco' Medina, bass player Joshua Beiser and drummer Jeff Carter. The Matt Goldman produced album 'Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead And Nothing Is Bleeding' emerged through Solid State in June 2004. Notably the band claimed to have recorded the entire album in just one take in an attempt to recreate a live feel, with frequent bursts of feedback illustrating its authenticity. Upon completion of this session both Medina and Carter exited, the latter being superseded by COOL HAND LUKE's Mark Nicks whilst Brian Khounvichit took on the guitar position.
THE CHARIOT allied with HIGH ON FIRE, EVERY TIME I DIE and THE RED CHORD for a month long, 27 city trek launching on 7th September 2005 in Poughkeepsie, New York. In mid December the band squeezed in a brief burst of gigs in union with MEWITHOUTYOU, UNDEROATH and AS CITIES BURN.
Back on the road, THE CHARIOT were chosen as one of the opening acts for P.O.D.'s "The Warriors Tour 2: Guilty By Association" US tour in April 2006. Both guitarist Keller Harbin and bass player Joshua Beiser quit the band in June. Long-time friends Jon Terrey, on guitar, and Don Eaton, on bass, quickly plugged the gap.
The group subsequently engaged in a gigantic roving festival billing with the 'Sounds Of The Underground' tour throughout the summer, commencing in Cleveland, Ohio on July 8th, partnered with IN FLAMES, TRIVIUM, CANNIBAL CORPSE, GWAR, TERROR, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, BEHEMOTH, AS I LAY DYING and THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD.
The band forged a road union with THE HANDSHAKE MURDERS, NORMA JEAN and A LIFE ONCE LOST for the 'Great American Noise' tour commencing March 2007 lasting into mid-April. In May the campaigning continued alongside MISERY SIGNALS, THE HUMAN ABSTRACT and I HATE SALLY, later adding I AM GHOST to this billing running up to into late June. The band then jumped onboard the roving 'Vans Warped' festival tour.
French Metal band GOJIRA embarked on a North American headlining tour in May 2009 with support on the trek coming from THE CHARIOT and CAR BOMB. That same month THE CHARIOT issued the album 'Wars And Rumors Of Wars' via Solid State Records.
