Biography

Atlanta Nu-Metal band SEVENDUST is rooted back as far as 1990 when SNAKE NATION rhythm section bassist Vince Hornsby and drummer Morgan Rose (husband of COAL CHAMBER bassist Rayna) decided on a new musical path. Pulling in vocalist Lajon Witherspoon and STILLRAIN guitarist Clint Lowery and PIECEDOGS guitarist John Connolly the unit created CRAWLSPACE in 1995. In this incarnation the band issued the 'My Ruin' track as part of the 'Mortal Kombat - More Kombat' collection, shortly after switching title to SEVENDUST. The debut album of 1997 would soon attain Gold sales status in North America.

The second album, 'Home' produced by Toby Wright, features guest backing vocals from Skin of SKUNK ANANSIE. SEVENDUST supported CREED on tour in America during November 2000. The band gained massive radio support during 2001 for their 'Angel's Son' single, a tribute to the recently departed Lynn Strait of SNOT fame.

When launched in November the 'Animosity' album would debut in America landing a number 28 Billboard album chart placing. SEVENDUST would also have new material featured on the March 2002 'WWF Forcible Entry' compilation issued by Columbia Records donating 'Break The Walls Down' (Chris Jericho's Theme). The band would announce touring plans for summer of 2002 billed as 'Locobazooka' and comprising a package billing of FILTER, EARSHOT, NONPOINT, MUSHROOMHEAD, REVEILLE, AUDIOVENT, DRY CELL, MAD AT GRAVITY and DRAGPIPE. Gigs throughout September and October found SEVENDUST as openers to CREED. 2003 saw no let up in the live schedule, the band uniting with TRUST COMPANY, PROJECT 86 and FINGER ELEVEN for a two week U.S. tour April commencing in Denver, Colorado. Recording for SEVENDUST's 2003 studio album saw the inclusion of MARVIN GAYE's 'Inner City Blues'. US headline shows running through August and September saw ELEMENT EIGHTY and PRESENCE as support. The single 'Enemy' caused ripples amongst both fans and media when it was learned the barbed lyrics were in fact a forthright diatribe against ex-COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Fafara. Words for the song were penned by drummer Morgan Rose, wife of erstwhile COAL CHAMBER bassist Rayna Foss-Rose.

The October 'Seasons' album sold just under 68,000 copies in its first week of release to enter the Billboard charts at no. 14. The band toured Australia in March of 2004 with support from SUNK LOTO and FULL SCALE. Taking a somewhat different direction, SEVENDUST's next release would be the much mellower 'Southside Double-Wide Acoustic Live' CD / DVD package, landing at no. 90 on the US Billboard charts.

August of 2004 found Clint Lowery forging an all new band unit entitled DARK BLUE in league with well known players ex-VIRGOS MERLOT/VIRGOS guitarist/vocalist Brett Hestla, Troy McLawhorn of DOUBLE DRIVE on second guitar, Corey Lowery from STEREOMUD, LIFE OF AGONY, SW1TCHED and STUCK MOJO on bass with Will Hunt of the TOMMY LEE band and SKRAPE on drums. The revised band, subsequently re-titled DARK NEW DAY, soon got back onto the road but on 14th December, in the midst of a US tour, Clint Lowery walked out citing "personal issues". The following month it would be revealed a replacement had been found in the form of ex-AMEN and SNOT man Sonny Mayo. SEVENDUST partnered with SKINDRED for US shows during April 2005.

The band signed to Roadrunner Records for a 2005 album entitled 'Next'. The Winter had the band engaging in the 'Masters of Horror' US tour, commencing 18th November at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines, bolstered by MUDVAYNE, 10 YEARS and BOBAFLEX. SEVENDUST sold more than 41,000 copies of their fifth album in the United States in its first week of release to debut at Number 20 on the national Billboard 200 chart.

SEVENDUST launched their 2006 season of live campaigning on 18th January in Lake Buena Vista, Florida accompanied on a two month trek by NONPOINT, SOCIALBURN, WICKED WISDOM and ONE. European gigs in March would be announced alongside STAIND and PANIC CELL. Although the band parted ways with WineDark Records in April, by which stage they had shifted some 150,000 copies of 'Next' in the USA, they headed out on a North American headline run commencing May 4th in La Crosese, Wisconcin, supported by SOIL. However, a week's worth of shows cancelled when guitarist John Connolly broke a bone in his hand. The band also put in a significant appearance at the TOOL and DEFTONES headlined 'Download' festival in Castle Donington, UK on June 9th.

The band opened 2007 by aligning themselves with DIECAST and BLOODSIMPLE for a lengthy run of US shows scheduled to begin on February 8 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. To coincide, SEVENDUST released the album 'Alpha', produced by Joe Miller, John Connolly, Morgan Rose and Shawn Grove, through its own label, 7 Bros. Records.

Clint Lowery initiated a solo project entitled HELLO DEMONS...MEET SKELETONS, playing a first show on 20th December 2008 at the Three Bears Café in Marietta, Georgia. That September, Lowery had released a mainly acoustic, six song EP entitled 'Chills'. Lowery's SEVENDUST colleague Morgan Rose accompanied him on drums for concerts.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY hooked up with SEVENDUST for North American dates in March 2009. With MÖTLEY CRÜE's Tommy Lee sustaining damage to his hand, SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose filled in behind the kit for the 13th August show at Clarkston, Michigan's DTE Energy Music Theatre and 14th August concert at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
