Founded in late 1981 by guitarist Kevin Sanders and drummer David Kendall prior to adding ex MONARCH bassist Doug Smith. With Kendall on lead vocals GARGOYLE surfaced onto the tape trading scene in 1985 with a demo comprising of 'Into the darkness', 'The man in black' and 'Crimson Red'.

Vocalist Tim Lachman would later found STATE OF THE ART in league with his brother, future HALFORD / DIESEL MACHINE guitarist Pat Lachman, future RAISED BY ALIENS bassist Alex Sarabia and drummer Dennis Kelly.

The Lachman siblings would later be found in both ERROR 7 and ELEVENTH HOUR with both of these acts donating tracks to an IRON MAIDEN tribute album.

GARGOYLE drummer David Kendall would later be located as a member of Portland Pop Rockers COLORFIELD.
