DOCTOR BUTCHER was created in a creative lull in the career of SAVATAGE. Vocalist Jon Oliva and guitarists Chris Oliva and CHRIS CAFFERY founded the out and out Metal act DOCTOR BUTCHER with KING DIAMOND bassist Hal Patino and LILLIAN AXE drummer Gene Barnett. Although credited on the album, bassist Brian Gregory did not actually perform on the record. DOCTOR BUTCHER would only perform a handful of shows in the Florida area.

Caffery and Jon Oliva would rejoin SAVATAGE shortly after the album release. Tragically Chris Oliva, a hugely talented guitarist, was to lose his life tragically young. Travelling home from the Livestock Festival in Zephyrhills, Florida on the night of October 17th Oliva's car was hit head on by a truck that strayed into his lane. The guitarist's wife Dawn would eventually recover but the 30 year old guitarist was killed outright.

In 2005, a second solo album from CHRIS CAFFERY would include the first studio recording of a DOCTOR BUTCHER outtake 'Iraq Attack' featuring Jon Oliva as well as original DOCTOR BUTCHER bassist Brian Gregory. Black Lotus Records re-issued the 'Doctor Butcher' album in 2005, adding four demo tracks.
