ROYAL ANGUISH is an Ocala, Florida based Christian Death Metal act forged by Matt Knowles during 1991. An early line-up saw Knowles ranked alongside guitarist Bryan Murray, bass player Paul Mattox and drummer Damion Smith. In 1993 the band published the EP 'Shocking The Priest', recorded at at Impressions Audio in Fort Lauderdale, ROYAL ANGUISH standing at Knowles, Murray, bassist Alex Frasier and drummer Tommy Taylor. An album, 'The Chronicles Of Autumn Sorrow', was crafted during the Winter of 1995 but would remain shelved. Yet again the band line up had altered dramatically with Knowles and Frasier now allied with lead guitarist Dee Mulligan, female singer Terra Cay, keyboard player Drew Damon Grounds and drummer Damion Smith. Former GATE 22 drummer Anthony Smith enrolled in 1999.

In 2002 ROYAL ANGUISH, in a partnership with MISTRAL, contributed the track 'Mary Did You Know' to the seasonal compilation album 'A Brutal Christmas'. Band membership at this juncture found Knowles joined by vocalist / guitarist Henrik Ryosa, bassist Anthony Smith and female vocalist Melody Dove. That same year re-mastered tracks from the 'Shocking The Priest' sessions were included on a three way split album shared with TORTURED CONSCIENCE and SOUL OF THE SAVIOR.

ROYAL ANGUISH published the 'Mysterion' album in 2003, the group now being credited as a duo of Knowles and Smith. Sessioning in the studio would be singers Katy Decker, Melody Dove and Courtney Chadwick, guitarists Henrik Ryosa, Chad Bailey, Howard Card and Corey Steger along with violinist Devon Hawk.

2004 finally saw the issue on album of 'The Chronicles Of Autumn Sorrow' recordings and yet further line-up changes as Don Wisby exited in order to prioritise his other act EVERSINCEVE and bassist Andy Funk was replaced by Greg Andrews. Erik Rutan of HATE ETERNAL and MORBID ANGEL repute would act as producer for a December 2004 EP entitled 'Tales of Sullen Eyes', crafted at Mana Studios in Tampa. Shortly after recording the band added new bassist Sean Tibbetts. ROYAL ANGUISH signed to Dutch label Fear Dark in June 2005.

ROYAL ANGUISH drummer J.R. Daniels joined San Diego's CATTLE DECAPITATION in April 2006. That same year both Katy Decker and Marius Kozlowski exited to prioritise MENA BRINNO.

ROYAL ANGUISH announced the addition of guitarist Asgrim, of YETI, COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN and CHALICE, and drummer Tom Klinesmith, previously with ENIGMATIC PARANOIA, NIGHTSBANE and MORBID SACRIFICE, to the group's ranks in January 2007.

The band's 2008 album 'The Grand Deception' featured the notable tracks 'Thy Pale Existence', featuring a guesting Meri Tadic of ELUVEITIE, and 'The Grand Deception', featuring Jasper Pieterson of MORPHIA.
