Biography
Former WINGER frontman and member of ALICE COOPER's band and the ALAN PARSONS PROJECT. The solo albums, commencing with 1996's 'This Conversation Seems Like A Dream' on Domo Records, displayed a mellower side to the man's character. Crafted at Rising Sun Studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico, 'This Conversation Seems Like A Dream' featured guesting musicians guitarists Rich Kern, Marc Schulman and DANGER DANGER's Andy Timmons, plus WINGER drummer Rod Morgenstein.
A second solo set, released under different titles as 'Down Incognito' in the USA, 'Made By Hand' in Europe and 'Another Way' in Japan, followed in 1998. Erstwhile WINGER colleagues Reb Beach and Paul Taylor donated their songwriting skills. For live acoustic concerts Winger employed guitarist John Roth, bassist Joe Tucker and drummer Robbie Rotchild.
KIP WINGER toured Britain in December 2000 as guest to BOB CATLEY. The 2000 album 'Songs From The Ocean Floor' was more of a group effort. Included musicians comprised guitarist ANDY TIMMONS, DOKKEN and WINGER guitarist REB BEACH, guitarist John Roth, bassist Mark Tatum, drummer Rod Morgenstein and erstwhile FIFTH ANGEL and ALICE COOPER drummer Ken Mary. Even Moon Zappa aided on backing vocals.
Winger put in a batch of solo dates in North America during December of 2002. He would be on the road once more as part of the WHITESNAKE headed 'Rock Never Stops' US Summer 2003 tour alongside SLAUGHTER and WARRANT. In November of the singer taped a solo performance at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas for a live DVD release. Kip would also donate vocal tracks to a version of the KISS classic 'I Want You' for a tribute album 'Spin The Bottle' in 2004 and also vocalised on the tracks 'Spirit Of The Radio' and 'Limelight' for the Magna Carta 2005 RUSH tribute album 'Subdivisions'. That same year Winger also guested on the XCARNATION 'Grounded' album mentored by Turkish guitarist Cenk Eroglu.
A high profile bout of US touring saw Lane teaming up with former RATT frontman STEPHEN PEARCY, DON DOKKEN, FIREHOUSE and ex-WARRANT frontman JANI LANE for VH1 Classic's 'Metal Mania: Stripped Across America' trek in late October. During 2006 Kip Winger re-formulated the classic WINGER line-up.
In October 2006 Winger vocalised on a cover version of the JOURNEY classic 'Send Her My Love' featured on the Cleopatra Records homage collection '80s Metal Tribute To Journey'. Having relocated to Nashville, the album 'From The Moon To The Sun' emerged in May 2008.
Winger was honoured during February 2009 when he was presented by General Harold Cross with an plaque and a historic United States of America flag, actually the last United States of America flag to fly over Forward Operating Base at Kalsu in Iskandaria, Iraq, by the Government of the United States. Winger was recognized for his musical composition 'Blue Suede Shoes' dedicated to the service and sacrifice of the United States armed forces and their families.
