Biography
A quartet from San Francisco, SEA HAGS was formed in 1985 by frontman Ron Yocum and bassist Chris Schlosshardt. The pair worked as painters, short order cooks or ran a burger stand in order to survive as their vision of a Rock band took shape. The group opened up for MOTÖRHEAD, the RAMONES and THE CRAMPS, being duly discovered by Chrysalis A&R man Johnny Carter who signed the then three-piece in December 1987. The high profile Mike Clink was enrolled as producer shortly after he'd finished work on GUNS N' ROSES 'Appetite For Destruction'.
Drums were originally in the hands of the Australian ex-COLD COLD HEARTS and DRAGSTER member Lora McFarlane before Adam Maples took over. McFarlane joined SLEATER-KINNEY.
Guitarist Frank Wilsey, a former member of HEAD ON and BASTARD SONS OF GOD, was the last member of the group to join added shortly before SEA HAGS recorded their debut album for Chrysalis with Clink. Prior to the release of the album SEA HAGS contributed the non-album track 'Under The Night Stars' to the 1988 soundtrack album for the 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 4' movie.
The band was brought over to Britain by Chrysalis for a club tour in June 1989 before supporting the GEORGIA SATELLITES on a selection of dates the following month.
The group surprisingly split in February 1990 amidst rumours of alleged drug abuse and bad management. Sadly Chris Schlosshardt died of a drugs overdose during 1991. After the eventual break up of the band guitarist Frank Wilsey changed his surname to 'Wilcox' (then 'Wilsex'!) and hooked up with ex-RATT vocalist Stephen Pearcy in ARCADE and subsequently NITRONIC.
