LEVIATHAN

Biography

LEVIATHAN, based out of San Francisco, is a solo venture of Wrest (a.k.a. Jeff Whitehead). Tumult Records would compile the demos 'Krankheit' and 'Schadenfreude' for the 2002 album 'Verräter'. The 2003 album 'The Speed Of Darkness', released by the German No Colours label, would be a split affair with Polish act IUVENES.

LEVIATHAN shared vinyl with CREBAIN for a May 2004 release on Tumult Records, the band closing this set, limited to 666 copies, with a cover version of VON's 'Blood Angel'. June 2004's album, 'Tentacles Of Whorror', was released through Moribund Records. A restricted run of 500 gatefold vinyl editions not only sported different artwork, but also an extra track in 'A Shield From Grace'. The Undercover label put the 'In Adverse Talons' track onto a four way split 7" single, 'Black Metal Against The World', shared with with FUNERAL WINDS, AD HOMINEM and ETERNITY. With 1000 units manufactured, the first 200 would be pressed on splattered colour vinyl. The following month LEVIATHAN allied with XASTHUR for a split album release on Profound Lore.

Early 2005 saw an announcement detailing the formation of a Black Metal "supergroup" dubbed TWILIGHT, a collaboration of underground veterans seeing Wrest joined by Azentrius of NACHTMYSTIUM, Malefic of XASTHUR, Imperial of KRIEG and Hildolf from DRAGUAR. An eponymous album, mastered by Scott Hull of PIG DESTROYER, would be recorded for the Southern Lord label.

LEVIATHAN contributed two tracks, 'Dark December' and 'Nocturnal Gathering', to the ILDJARN tribute 'Gathered Under The Banner Of Strength And Anger' released through Target:Earth| Productions. An exclusive track, 'Hissing and Sullen', saw inclusion on the 2005 compilation album 'Destroyers From The Western Skies'.

Profound Lore released the red vinyl album 'A Silhouette In Splinters' in June 2005. Greek label ISO666 Releases put out a split album in collaboration with Russia's BLACKDEATH, 'Portrait In Scars', in August. A picture disc variant was also issued under Niessedrion Records.

In January 2006 Battle Kommand Records released a split album shared with SAPTHURAN. Viva Hate Records released the EP 'The Speed Of Darkness' in March, initially as a limited edition of 100 white vinyl and 400 red vinyl copies. The first 50 also came with a T-shirt. A second pressing resulted in 200 on clear vinyl and 466 on dark green vinyl.
