Biography

WITCH drummer Punky Peru and vocalist Peter Wabitt first worked together in the group AMPAGE in 1979. The pair split from that outfit a year later to form DAMIEN with former W.A.S.P. / DANTE FOX and GREAT WHITE bassist Don Costa. However, Costa was hired by OZZY OSBOURNE and DAMIEN folded.

During 1982 Wabitt and Peru hooked up together once more, enlisting guitarist Ronny Too and ex MESSENGER and JEKYLL & HYDE bassist Jim Warmon, to create the Glam Metal band WITCH. The original intention had been to call the group SAVAGE, but the existence of the British NWoBHM band of the same name forced the quartet to have other ideas.

WITCH debuted in 1984 with the mini album 'The Hex Is On' before Peter Wabitt left the ranks and Punky Peru drafted in a female singer before the group fell apart and the drummer spent a stint in jail.

A WITCH resurrection occurred in 1988 when a 12" single, 'Nobody Sleeps', surfaced. The new incarnation of the group included Peru and bassist Jim Warmon alongside LITA FORD keyboard player David Ezrin, son of noted producer Bob Ezrin. In fact, Peru and Ezrin co-wrote the track 'Fatal Passion' on a LITA FORD album of the period.

However, the original WITCH line-up reunited in 1989 to cut a four track demo. That same year the band contributed the song '1.45' to the Los Angeles compilation album 'Rock Climbers' for Stingray Records. However, WITCH folded following a 13th April 1989 show at Jezebel's in Anaheim. Punky Peru was soon back in the limelight, performing in a makeshift band for a porno movie 'Rock n' Roll Heaven' and also in the Penelope Spheeris directed mud wrestlers film 'Heavy Metal Thunder And Mud'. That September Peru unsuccessfully auditioned for the ALICE COOPER band whilst his colleague Ronny Too suffered a similar fate in a try out for W.A.S.P.

During 1989 a proposed band unit was formed involving Punky Peru, BLACK 'N BLUE guitarist Jef Warner plus ROUGH CUTT guitarist Chris Hagar and QUIET RIOT bassist Sean McNabb. This group never got beyond the  rehearsal stage.

1990 found Peru and Too with new act FIRE WATER rounded off by vocalist Alex Zeo and bassist Billy Thomas. By 1991 Peru and Too had split to form A.W.O.L. with bassist Billy Boomer Thomas and vocalist R.T. Cravin, recording a three song demo.

GOD BOX was initiated during 1997 by the former WITCH duo of drummer Punky Peru and singer Peter Wabbit. They would be joined by the ROD STEWART band credited bassist Phil Chen with ex-DIO man Rowan Robertson on guitar. GOD BOX recorded a six-song demo produced by HEART guitarist Howard Leese, which included the WITCH track 'Take Me Away', at Music Box Studios in Hollywood. This set notably featured guest appearances by GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash, keyboard maestro Keith Emerson, Howard Leese, and BILLY IDOL guitarist Steve Steven.

WITCH returned to action once more in October 2008, this time fronted by the high profile figure of BITCH vocalist Betsy Weiss.
