Biography

Not to be confused with the Vinnie Vincent fronted band of the same name, Los Angeles outfit WARRIOR also came to the fore with a hugely impressive demo. Formed by the nucleus of guitarists Joe Floyd and Tommy Asakawa in San Diego, the pair hooked up with vocalist Parramore McCarty in Los Angeles in 1983, working with a number of rhythm sections and under different names (including RED) before agreeing to go for WARRIOR. Formatively, Asakawa had played in acts such as BUSTER CHERRY, alongside Stephen Pearcy, and METROPOLIS, working with Robbin Crosby. This latter act also hosted Parramore McCarty.

Upon signing to Virgin's 10 imprint, the WARRIOR quartet recorded the 'Fighting For The Earth' album in 1985, although some of the raw energy and heaviosity found on the demo tended to be lost on the actual record.

The bass and drum tracks on the album were actually played by original band members Rick Bennett and Liam Jason respectively. The pair had both been replaced by ex-BLACK SHEEP bassist Bruce Turgon and Los Angeles club veteran Jimmy Volpe, who had once been in a group called CHAMELEON with ex-BUX and JOE PERRY PROJECT vocalist Ralph Morman, on drums upon its release. Jason would go on to join RHINO BUCKET later surprising the Rock community by trans gendering into Jackie Enx.

Despite a fair amount of hype, including a trip to Britain where WARRIOR played at the Marquee Club in London and appeared on Channel 4's 'ECT' Rock programme, the group would soon break up.and Joe Floyd started an un-named band project with ex-WARLORD drummer Mark Zonder. Volpe joined FOREPLAY.

After a very short term engagement with ROUGH CUTT in late 1987, vocalist Parramore McCarty later recorded an album with ex-BILLY IDOL guitarist STEVE STEVENS billed as the ATOMIC PLAYBOYS. 1992 had McCarty fronting up the short-lived SECRET SERVICE, a band unit assembled by RATT guitarist Robbin Crosby backed by bassist Krys Barrato and drummer Dino Guerrero. This band splintered whilst attempting to make an intended debut record.

Bruce Turgon, having recorded with old BLACK SHEEP mate LOU GRAMM on the FOREIGNER singer's solo works, teamed up with him again in the ranks of SHADOWKING before he was invited to replace Rick Wills in FOREIGNER when Gramm rejoined the group for the recording of the 'Mr. Moonlight' album.

WARRIOR would be resurrected in 1998 with the recording of a brand new album, 'Ancient Futures', although only McCarty and Floyd remained from the original line-up. The album, released through German label Dream Circle, was recorded in part with TRIBE OF GYPSIES guitarist Roy Z in a playing and writing capacity. Backing up its release the band appeased German fans by putting in a sterling performance at the 1998 Wacken Festival.

2000 found the band's line up including ex-FOREVER bassist Ray Burke and the esteemed JOSHUA, DRIVER and IMPELLITERRI frontman ROB ROCK on vocal duties. Floyd aided erstwhile METAL CHURCH vocalist David Wayne's WAYNE in September 2000 and would also act as producer for DESTINY'S END's 'Transition' album.

A new WARRIOR album was projected to include KROKUS vocalist Marc Storace as guest singer and GODHEAD guitarist Mike Miller. 'The War Of Gods And Men' surfaced in February of 2004, bravely sporting a cover version of UK Techno-Anarchists KLF's '3AM Eternal'. BRUCE TURGON readied his solo debut, 'Outside Looking In', through the Italian Frontiers label in 2005.

WARRIOR played at the 'Rocklahoma' festival in Pryor, Oklahoma on 11th July 2009. The membership featured original members Parramore McCarty and Joe Floyd, along with new lead guitarist AC Alexander, bassist Rob Farr, and drummer Dave DuCey. This unit tracked new album material at Floyd's L.A. South Bay studio facility.
