Biography

Los Angeles Thrash Metal band was an early port of call for both guitarist Michelle Meldrum, subsequently of PHANTOM BLUE, and drummer Gene Hoglan, of DARK ANGEL, DEATH and STRAPPING YOUNG LAD repute. Besides his band activities, Hoglan was well known on the local metal scene as lighting technician for SLAYER, OMEN and SAVAGE GRACE and journalist for 'The Headbanger' fanzine. The band's opening line-up saw Meldrum and Hoglan joined by bass player Blake Edwards. WARGOD bowed in with the 1985 rehearsal cassette 'Into The Abyss', the demo 'Day Of Atonement' following shortly after. Hoglan opted out to join DARK ANGEL, first featuring on the 'Darkness Descends' album, whilst Meldrum forged PHANTOM BLUE. In a straight swap, as Hoglan teamed up with DARK ANGEL, their then drummer, ex-MEGADETH man Lee Rausch, hopped over to join WARGOD. When the group petered out, Rob Perkins went on to front PHOBIA.

In March of 2005 ex-WARGOD singer Robbie Perkins united with former HIRAX members guitarist Bob Savage, bassist Gary Monardo and drummer Johnny Tabares in a reformed version of their pre-HIRAX band COLD BLOOD, albeit going under the moniker WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.

On Sunday, May 18th 2008 Michelle Meldrum was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California in critical condition. Three days later, Wednesday, May 21st, she passed away as a result of a cystic growth on her brain that had restricted oxygen and blood flow to her brain.  Meldrum had just completed writing and recording the latest MELDRUM album with drummer Gene Hoglan, along with the new line-up of vocalist Michele Madden and bassist Laura Christine. The surviving band members planned to release the album in tribute to their fallen band-mate. Meldrum, 39, was survived by her parents and three year old son, Jake Thomas.
