Biography

THE SCREAM was created from the collapsing star that was power metal band RACER X, the band that launched MR. BIG guitarist Paul Gilbert's career. ANGORA vocalist John Corabi, whose name had previously been linked to SKID ROW and BRITNY FOX, was brought into RACER X to fill the gap left by original frontman Jeff Martin, the singer having been lured to a drum position in BADLANDS. Ex-RACHEL, AMERICADE and SHARK ISLAND drummer Walt Woodward III filled the boots of original band drummer Scott Travis who had joined JUDAS PRIEST. With RACER X only retaining original members guitarist Bruce Bouillet and bassist John Alderete, a name change to THE SCREAM was adopted after a switch from the original choice of SAINTS AND SINNERS.

Having recently resisted overtures from BRITNY FOX to return to his native Philadelphia to fill the frontman vacancy caused by Dean Davidson's abrupt departure, Corabi initially kept loyal to ANGORA before eventually joining THE SCREAM. With the singer in the fold, the band wound up with a Hollywood Records deal and a debut album produced by Eddie Kramer, which featured ex-NEW ENGLAND and ALCATRAZZ man Jimmy Waldo guesting on keyboards.

THE SCREAM toured with BULLET BOYS and BLACKEYED SUSAN in the fall of 1991 followed by a one-off 'American Dream' date at the Astoria Theatre in London. Whilst Corabi felt comfortable enough turning down SKID ROW and BRITNY FOX, when MÖTLEY CRÜE came calling to offer him the vocalist's slot previously owned by VINCE NEIL it proved to be an offer too good to resist.

With Corabi out of the picture, THE SCREAM regrouped under the new name of DC10. The band then pulled in singer Billy Scott to become STASH but this line-up soon splintered.

Following an eponymous solitary album fronting the mighty MÖTLEY CRÜE Corabi founded UNION with ex KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, this partnership producing three albums. In 2000 Corabi joined RATT, strangely not as a vocalist but as rhythm guitarist. 2002 saw Corabi venturing out into side projects ZEN GUERILLA, in alliance with former BULLETBOYS drummer Jimmy D'Anda and REVEL 8 bassist Stevo Bruno, as well as TWENTY 4 SEVEN alongside RATT colleague and drummer Bobby Blotzer and erstwhile OBSESSION and IRONHORSE guitarist Robert Marcello. By late 2002 Corabi was working with his former MÖTLEY CRÜE colleague bassist Nikki Sixx with the band BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION. However, he would quit this band prior to their debut album.

In July 2006 Versailles Records announced plans to release a live album by THE SCREAM, recorded for KNAC radio in 1992, 'The Scream Live - The Official Bootleg'. However, this release was suspended due to quoted "legal reasons related to clearance rights".
