SCARLING is the band founded by singer Jessicka Fodera, known for her near decade of Goth Grrrl notoriety fronting the infamous JACK OFF JILL. Initially Jessicka had jammed with guitarist Christian alongside HOLE and MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Samantha Maloney with John Bates on second guitar prior to formulating SCARLING in late 2001. The original plan was to include Nadja Puelen of COAL CHAMBER in this formation but Bobby was to take the position. Subsequent recruits included drummer Garey Snider and second guitarist Melanie Makaiwa.

Guitarist Ricky Lime, superseding Makaiwa, was previously with Olympia's SHOTGUN WON. The group debuted with the March 2003 single 'Band Aid Covers The Bullet Hole', produced by former NINE INCH NAILS man Chris Vrenna.
