Biography
Ex-MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer TOMMY LEE's Industrial Rap-Rock project. Guest appearance on the Scott Humphreys produced debut album include LIMP BIZKIT's Fred Durst, KID ROCK, Rap star SNOOP DOG, WU TANG CLAN's U Dog, BEASTIE BOYS Mixmaster Mike and Danny Lohner on guitar.
The band's live line up had two drummers in Lee and JANE'S ADDICTION and PORNO FOR PYROS man Stephen Perkins, Rapper Tilo, Mixmaster Mike, Canadian guitarist Kai and former ALANIS MORISSETTE bassist Chris Chaney. In late 2000 Lee's name was linked by rumour to that of drummer for OZZY OSBOURNE. Both camps would vigorously deny such claims.
METHODS OF MAYHEM enrolled bass player Marty O'Brein, previously with KILGORE, for live work commencing with European festival gigs and a placing on the 'Ozzfest 2000' billing. During band downtime in early 2001 O'Brein would deputise for an injured Fuss on DISTURBED's European dates.
The band had to fight off a claim from a Swedish artist in 2001 who lay claim to the name METHODS OF MAYHEM. Although Lee won the case press reports asserted that his elation was dampened by then discovering his record label had settled out of court previously! Lee would find himself back in the limelight during July when he appeared guesting alongside Punk band SUM 41 on the MTV 20th anniversary extravaganza performing, amongst others, MÖTLEY CRÜE's 'Shout At The Devil'.
O'Brein would find himself acting as a substitute once again when in September he filled in for an injured Tony Campos for live work with STATIC X. The industrious four stringer also operates the live jam band Carpenter and B-Real would debut their other act LOS MARIJUANOS, an all star combo in alliance with B-Real, Sen Dog and Bo Bo of CYPRESS HILL, guitarist Rogelio Lazano of DOWNSET and guitarist Stephan Carpenter of the DEFTONES. This band would subsequently evolve to become MARY JANE'S BOYFRIEND adding JANE'S ADDICTION drummer Stephen Perkins.
The second proposed METHODS OF MAYHEM offering included a rendition of DAVID BOWIE's 'Fame' enhanced by guest contributions from the likes of Mike Einziger and Brandon Boyd of INCUBUS, Mixmaster Mike of the BEASTIE BOYS and B-Real from CYPRESS HILL. However, it would be learned in early 2002 that this sophomore outing would be billed as a TOMMY LEE solo release 'Never A Dull Moment'. In March Lee confirmed his new look band as comprising of Lee on vocals and guitar, Marty O'Brien on bass, J3 on guitar and erstwhile STUCK MOJO drummer Will Hunt.
Meanwhile O'Brein announced a fresh project billed as AWKWARD in league with erstwhile OTEP guitarists Dave Aguilera and Tarver Marsh and former GODHEAD drummer James O'Connor. In April 2006 Will Hunt temporarily subbed for MÖTLEY CRÜE, deputising for an injured TOMMY LEE.
News emerged in early 2009 that Lee was recording a third METHODS OF MAYHEM album with drummer Will Hunt. The group announced signature to Roadrunner Records in July for this Scott Humphrey produced effort.
