Biography
LOSER was established in Los Angeles, California by guitarist JOHN 5 (a.k.a. John Lowery) in 2004. Lowery, a native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, had journeyed through a succession of Hard Rock acts since having relocated to the West Coast, Starting out with ALLIGATOR SOUP and raising his profile throughouts outfits such as BONE ANGEL, Rob Halford's TWO and the DAVID LEE ROTH band in 1998 before enrolling into the ranks of MARILYN MANSON's band unit for a six year, high profile tenure. Upon his departure from the Manson camp, the guitarist crafted the solo 'Vertigo' album. John 5 debuted his new band, entitled LOSER, on 15th November 2004 at the Roxy in West Hollywood.
Tracks were recorded for a debut album given a working title of 'Just Like You'. For this project Lowery had recruited vocalist Joe Grah, plus fellow Texans Charles Lee on bass and Glendon Crain on drums. The band was also aided by producer Bob Marlette. Vocalist Joe Grah, as frontman for JIBE, already had a significant amount of success in his home state of Texas. The band enjoyed initial success when the track 'Disposable Sunshine' was featured on the 'Fantastic Four' movie soundtrack.
Glendon Crain briefly left the band and was replaced by PSYCHO PLAGUE drummer Elias Andra. A new set of promotional photographs was shot but shortly afterwards Crain made his return.
The guitarist joined the ranks of ROB ZOMBIE's live band for the Summer 2005 'Ozzfest' concerts. A 2005 follow up solo outing, 'Songs For Sanity', featured guest guitar spots from STEVE VAI and Blues legend ALBERT LEE. Lowery also contributed his songwriting skills to KISS frontman PAUL STANLEY's 2006 solo opus.
LOSER acted as support to STAIND and THEORY OF A DEADMAN for US shows in February 2006. However, conflicting schedules with Lowery's ROB ZOMBIE commitments forced the closure of LOSER. Minus it's star performer, Island Records shelved the album, despite the single 'Nobody Knows' already having been serviced to radio.
