Biography
Influential and commercially ground breaking Art Rockers founded in 1986. With the commercial achievements of 'Ritual De Lo Habitual' frontman Perry Farrel more than made his mark in 1991 when his concept for a diverse travelling arts and music show dubbed 'Lollapalooza' came into being, the first of what was to be many successful annual events. However it was also to be the vehicle for JANE'S ADDICTION's destruction. As headliners of the first bout Farrell announced that these shows were to be the band's swansong. JANE'S ADDICTION bowed out with a show at New York's Madison Square Gardens.
Both Farrell and Perkins were quick to re-establish themselves with PORNO FOR PYROS going on to release two albums. Navarro struggled to rid himself of a drug dependency eventually scoring a high profile position as guitarist for RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. Avery disappeared from the scene altogether.
PORNO FOR PYROS last evolvement came with their submission of the track 'Hard Charger' to the soundtrack score to the movie 'Private Parts'. Farrell and Perkins being joined by Navarro and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea for this session.
in mind JANE'S ADDICTION supposed anti rock establishmentarianism is was with raised eyebrows that the rock world greeted a supposed reunion tour in 1997. The band that succumbed comprised of Farrel, Navarro, Perkins and Flea. With both Navarro and Flea in the line up many wondered as to the fate of their main act. Although invited Avery remained steadfast to his prior commitments with his act POLAR BEAR.
The resurrection of the band was greeted by excited response and tour dates sold out quickly. The band's New York show at Hammerstein Ballroom sold all 7'000 tickets in less than five minutes. Despite reaction to the revamped JANE'S ADDICTION Farrel announced the formation of a new band GOBALEE in the summer. He was joined by Perkins on drums.
Perkins joined ex-MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee's act METHODS OF MAYHEM for their 2000 American dates. By 2001 JANE'S ADDICTION, retaining the 1997 line up, were back on the circuit putting in a gig at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in California during April. Meantime PERRY FARRELL released his debut solo album 'Songs Yet To Be Sung'.
The band would perform at the annual KROQ 'Weenie Roast' festival at the massive Verizon Wieless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California on June 23rd alongside THE CULT, STAIND, DISTURBED, LINKIN PARK, STABBING WESTWARD, COLDPLAY, CRAZY TOWN and PAPA ROACH. JANE'S ADDICTION set about further live work enlisting Martyn LeNoble, formerly of THE CULT, on bass but during August of 2002 it would be revealed that LeNoble's position had been taken by replaced Chris Channey, a man citing studio experience with ROB ZOMBIE and ALANIS MORISSETTE.
In down time Dave Navarro busied himself on the Californian club circuit with a knockabout band entitled CAMP FREDDY. This ad hoc unit comprising of former THE CULT touring bassist Billy Morrison on guitar, ex-GUNS N' ROSES and THE CULT drummer Matt Sorum, bassist Scott Ford, and vocalist Donovan Leitch.
Splitting with Warner Bros. In early 2003 JANE'S ADDICTION, recently having signed to the Sanctuary Management stable, shopped a new Bob Ezrin produced album 'Hypersonic' to the Capitol label. To promote the new record 'Strays' the band headed up the rejuvenated Lollapalooza touring festival commencing 3rd July, the first since 1997, partnered on the road alongside AUDIOSLAVE, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, JURASSIC 5 and THE DONNAS. Continued touring in North America saw the band packaged with MARILYN MANSON for shows throughout December. However, these gigs were pulled with frontman Perry Farrell has issuing a statement citing "exhaustion brought on by a rigorous tour schedule".
DAVE NAVARRO found himself the subject of the burgeoning taste for Rock n' Roll reality TV shows when it was revealed MTV planned to document the planning, lead up and the actual event of his wedding to guitarist actress Carmen Electra. Farrel too got into the limelight by donating his services to Walt Disney album 'A World Of Happiness', featuring on a duet entitled 'The Patience Bossa' with BLONDIE singer Deborah Harry. In June of 2004 the JANE'S ADDICTION trio of Dave Navarro, Chris Chaney and Stephen Perkins united with former SKYCYCLE singer and MTV VJ Steve Isaacs in a brand new band unit entitled THE PANIC CHANNEL. That same month statements on the JANE'S ADDICTION official website implied the band had split once more. THE PANIC CHANNEL made their live debut at the Dragonfly Club in Los Angeles on 21st September.
Chris Wyse and Stephen Perkins would spend March recording new music at Doug Fieger's studio in Los Angeles working with former ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist JERRY CANTRELL. April saw Perry Farrell re-emerging as part of a newly constructed band entitled SATELLITE PARTY in collaboration with EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencort. Meantime, DAVE NAVARRO found himself further international recognition as host of the reality TV show 'Rock Star - INXS'.
JANE'S ADDICTION reunited in early 2009, undertaking a brace of Los Angeles club shows as warm ups. The group played its first major show at the eighth Sasquatch! Music festival, held in May at the Gorge in Quincy, Washington. A US tour was planned as a double headliner partnered with NINE INCH NAILS with support from Tom Morello's STREET SWEEPER.
On 21st April 2009 Rhino Records celebrated the legacy of JANE'S ADDICTION with 'A Cabinet Of Curiosities', a 3 CD/1 DVD boxed set of demos, live performances and rarities that included no less than 30 unreleased tracks focussing solely on the band's original incarnation of vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins.
It was learned in January 2010 that VELVET REVOLVER and ex-GUNS N' ROSES bass player Duff McKagan was writing and recording with the band.
