Biography
Los Angeles Rockers BONE ANGEL involved a pedigree cast of players that unfortunately never recorded beyond demos. The group was originally conceived as HARD LUCK by ex-ALIEN and THE FOUR HORSEMEN vocalist Frank Starr (a.k.a. Frank Casamassina), bassist Terry Nails (Terry Goodman), former DIO guitarist Craig Goldy and drummer Mark Bistany (a.k.a. 'Moke'). Nails had also previously been involved with KILLERWATT, TOMMY TUTONE and POPULATION 5, alongside Matt Sorum, with SEX PISTOLS guitarist STEVE JONES and had also put down bass on the first JOHNNY CRASH album. In this formation the group supported the likes of PANTERA, WHITE ZOMBIE, DANZIG and BODY COUNT. On occassion WHITE LION man Greg D'Angelo sati on on drums. Bistany left to join CELLOPHANE.
Next in line drummer Randy Castillo had prior to joining the band's formation featured on a succession of OZZY OSBOURNE albums, 'The Ultimate Sin' in 1986, 'No Rest For The Wicked' in 1988, 'Just Say Ozzy' in 1990, 'No More Tears' in 1991 and the concert album 'Live & Loud' during 1993. Following OZZY OSBOURNE's announced 'Retirement' in 1992, after completion of his 'No More Tours' US dates, Albuquerque, New Mexico born drummer Randy Castillo teamed up with BONE ANGEL. Castillo's pre-OZZY OSBOURNE history had witnessed stints with THE OFFENDERS, THE MOTELS, STONE FURY and the LITA FORD band.
Goldy opted out and was briefly replaced by Carl Cockran, recommended by Zakk Wylde, before this latest candidate relocated to New Jersey. The band then inducted the then 17 year old John Lowery, at this juncture switching the group title to BONE ANGEL. Demos ensued, followed by a South West regional tour but with Castillo's commitments to OZZY OSBOURNE taking priority the band fell apart.
With Lowery's departure, to join Rob Halford's TWO project. The guitarist would subsequently work with DAVID LEE ROTH then evolve into Johnny 5 for a term of duty with MARILYN MANSON. Castillo also figured on the eponymous album from RED SQUARE BLACK in 1994. When this project came to a halt, Castillo founded JUICE 13. The drummer joined the ranks of MÖTLEY CRÜE in 1999, debuting on the 'New Tattoo' album.
Tragically Starr was killed in a motorbike accident on June 18th, 1999. Castillo would sadly pass away on March 26th 2002, succumbing to a lengthy battle with cancer.
