Biography

Leaders in their field of politically charged hybrid Ska Rock FISHBONE, despite garnering strong underground appeal, never truly attained the commercial success they deserved. The Los Angeles act, founded in 1980 by a gang of school friends, were unafraid to mix Rock, Funk and Jazz into their unique sound. Live shows gave the band an awesome reputation fuelled by Angelo Moore's wild behaviour. During an early show with the DEAD KENNEDYS bassist John Fisher was actually stabbed onstage. As FISHBONE's stature grew so did Moore's bravado and it was commonplace for the man to perform naked except for his saxophone.

Although the 1985 debut 'Fishbone' and 1986's 'In Your Face' failed to sell Epic stuck by them for 1988's 'Truth And Soul' which finally gave the band a steady sales base. FISHBONE scored radio play too with their version of CURTIS MAYFIELD's 'Freddie's Dead'.

Chris 'Maverick Meat' Dowd was replaced by guitarist John Bigham as FISHBONE switched labels to Columbia and the breakthrough 'The Reality Of My Surroundings' album which finally found the band in the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. 'Everyday Sunshine' gave the band further radio exposure but shortly after it's release founder member Kendall Jones quit to join a religious commune.

The band's 2000 album is graced by a whole host of guest names such as RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Flea, John Frusciante and Chad Smith, NO DOUBT's Gwen Steffani, JANE'S ADDICTION's Perry Farrell and funk legends George Clinton and Rick James.

FISHBONE made a return during 2002, releasing the album 'Live At The Temple Bar & More' through their own Nuttsactor5 label in November. The band would tour the UK, their first shows there in more than five years, in October. The band put in a significant appearance at the TOOL and DEFTONES headlined 'Download' festival in Castle Donington, UK on June 9th 2006.
