Biography

One of the very few artists to successfully blend Latin Rap into a transition with a Hard Rock audience. CYPRESS HILL can lay claim to virtually originating their sound which stupefied listeners with its almost lazy relaxed rhythms, threatening lyrically but not verbally and topped off with trad Metal sound samples. All this and copious gangsta and ganga references.

CYPRESS HILL came together in the early 80's when 7A3 DJ Muggs joined forces with former DVX vocalist Sen Dog (a.k.a. Sennen Reyes) and fellow rapper B. Real (a.k.a. Louis Freese). Their debut album, released through major label Columbia's Ruffhouse affiliate, drew immediate praise setting the follow up 'Black Sunday' up for both acclaim and serious sales figures. CYPRESS HILL enhanced their crossover appeal by appearing on the Lollapalooza 1995 festival tour alongside HOLE, SONIC YOUTH and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE.

Sen Dog created a fresh project SX10 in 2000 with Brad X from COTTON MOUTH KINGS, drummer Glen Sobel and former HOUSE OF LORDS / GIUFFRIA / QUIET RIOT bassist Chuck Wright.

Initial copies of the 2000 RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE covers album came with two bonus live cuts taken from tapes for a shelved live album which included CYPRESS HILL's 'How Could I Just Kill A Man' featuring Sen Dog and B Real.

B Real's name would be strongly linked to the vacant RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE vocalist position in late 2000. Sen Dog would guest on the 2001 BIOHAZARD album 'Uncivilization'. B-Real would take time out in the summer to pull together two live side acts in alliance with DEFTONES guitarist Stephen Carpenter namely KUSH and LOS MARIJUANOS, the latter also oncluding Bo Bo. He would also put in a guest appearance on the second METHODS OF MAYHEM album, contributing to a revamped version of DAVID BOWIE's 'Fame'. The band would join the LINKIN PARK headed 'Projekt: Revolution' American tour during January 2002. Standing in on bass guitar for these dates would be Christian Olde-Wolbers of FEAR FACTORY.

CYPRESS HILL would also have new material featured on the March 2002 'WWF Forceable Entry' compilation issued by Columbia Records donating 'Just Another Victim' (Taz's Theme). An interesting diversion came in March of 2003 when Sen Dog and B. Real performed on ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' TV show performing the CYPRESS HILL song '(Rock) Superstar' and GUNS N' ROSES 'Paradise City' with the erstwhile GUNS N' ROSES triumvirate of guitarist Slash, bassist DUFF McKAGAN and drummer Matt Sorum.

In January of 2004 former COAL CHAMBER bassist Nadja Peulen appeared in the CYPRESS HILL video for the track 'What's Your Number', marking her second appearance in a CYPRESS HILL video, having previously guested in the band's clip for 'Rocksuperstar'. Ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash also put in a cameo.
