Biography
As the W. Axl Rose led GUNS N' ROSES made a highly controversial return to live work in 2002 upfront of a massively delayed new album, media attention shifted to the remaining erstwhile Gunners. Slash, DUFF McKAGAN and Matt Sorum founded a fresh band unit and maintained a high profile with a succession of vocalist auditions whilst the original GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler also re-emerged with his new venture, initially billed as ADLER'S APPETITE, but soon switching to SUKI JONES. The band's pedigree was unquestionable, featuring RATT and ex-LOVE/HATE singer Jizzy Pearl, ex-BIG BANG BABIES, DAD'S PORNO MAG, SLASH'S SNAKEPIT, WARRANT and RATT guitarist Keri Kelli, FASTER PUSSYCAT's Brent Muscat on second guitar and former VINCE NEIL and RATT bassist Robbie Crane.
SUKI JONES soon engaged in live work, and stated they would be pulling in BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, TUFF and ENGINES OF AGGRESSION guitarist Michael Thomas as substitute for Muscat, who cited prior FASTER PUSSYCAT commitments, for a rash of East Coast dates in May. However, days after this announcement it was revealed that WARRANT guitarist Erik Turner had in fact stepped up for the job. Apparent confusion amongst fans led the band to revert back to the ADLER'S APPETITE title in early June. By the following month Pearl had been superseded by Sean Crosby from the AC/DC tribute act BACK IN BLACK. Strangely, September US dates saw Pearl fronting the band once more.
ADLER'S APPETITE announced a schedule of European tour dates for the Spring of 2004. However, just prior to these gigs Keri Kelli bowed out in order to join ex-MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman VINCE NEIL's solo band. A quickfire replacement would be found in Michael Thomas, a veteran of ENGINES OF AGGRESSION, ASHBA, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES and TUFF. Later US gigs that year, dubbed the 'Bad Boys Of Metal', saw the band hooked up with former QUIET RIOT singer KEVIN DUBROW, ex-WARRANT frontman JANI LANE and openers BANG TANGO.
Pre-production for the first ADLER'S APPETITE album, for Shrapnel Records, commenced in September. East Coast dates in October once more saw a hook up with the BANG TANGO and BEAUTIFUL CREATURES pairing of Joe Leste and Alex Grossi with ex-QUIET RIOT man Chuck Wright on bass. By November the band had decided upon recording an EP, this offering comprising four original tracks plus cover renditions of 'Draw The Line' by AEROSMITH and Obscured' from HANOI ROCKS.
Gigs in Japan during March of 2005 saw Jizzy Pearl substituted BANG TANGO's Joe Leste. Shortly after this announcement it would be confirmed Pearl had left the band, being replaced by Sheldon Tarsha. However, the band, acquiring BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION/ex-L.A. GUNS guitarist Tracii Guns, himself a formative GUNS N' ROSES man, then evolved into GUNS N' ROSES REVISITED for a series of August Asian gigs across Philippines, Singapore, Bali and Indonesia. Concerts in Argentina during November would be preceded by a one off 30th October gig at the Rainbow Bar & Grill in Las Vegas. For this show Adler, Sheldon Tarsha and Michael Thomas would be joined by IZZY STRADLIN' band guitarist JT Longoria and bassist Chip Z'Nuff of ENUFF Z'NUFF. Meantime, Keri Kelli would join SKID ROW for touring purposes, filling in for Snake Sabo.
In December rumours surfaced indicating that Adler had fired his entire band with the exception of Michael Thomas. When this transpired to be true, the ousted members retaliated by exercising their legal rights to the band name. In a collective statement Jizzy Pearl, Keri Kelli and Robbie Crane revealed they, as a partnership, co-owned the ADLER'S APPETITE title.
ADLER'S APPETITE undertook a bout of European but appeared to grind to halt on 24th January 2006. At the band's concert at the Matrix venue in Bochum Chip Z'Nuff announced from the stage that the gig would be their last. By the time Adler had hit British shores the GUNS N' ROSES tribute band UK GUNS N' ROSES (formerly BAD OBSESSION) was acting as his back up band. Mid way through these dates Adler took onboard another GUNS N' ROSES tribute band called GUNS 2 ROSES.
Keri Kelli joined the ALICE COOPER band in March 2006. ADLER'S APPETITE announced US shows for August ranked alongside FASTER PUSSYCAT.
In June 2008 it was learned that Steven Adler, alongside WHITESNAKE vocalist David Coverdale's ex-wife Tawny Kitaen, would among the celebrity patients undergoing detoxification and treatment at a centre in the Los Angeles area on the second season of the hit reality series 'Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew'. The series, consisting of eight one-hour episodes, premiered October 2008 on VH1. That same month it was learned the drummer had forged a fresh band unit dubbed GUNS OF DESTRUCTION in union with L.A. GUNS and BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION guitarist Tracii Guns and ENUFF Z'NUFF bassist Chips Znuff.
Adler was arrested in January 2009 for failing to complete court-ordered community service by the judge's deadline in connection with a July 2008 DUI bust. Subsequently a judge ordered Adler to check himself into Cri-Help treatment center in North Hollywood, California. On the 15th of that month the drummer was back on national television screens, starring in VH1's 'Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House', an eight-episode, one hour series.
Singer Sheldon Tarsha announced his departure from ADLER'S APPETITE in early April 2009, saying it was "time now for me to follow my heart and continue working with my original band." ADLER'S APPETITE played its first show with new vocalist Rick Stitch, of the Los Angeles based group LADYJACK, on Friday 17th April at the The Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, California.
In mid July Steven Adler laid down drums for three tracks included on erstwhile GUNS N' ROSES colleague Slash's debut solo album. Further positive news came on 3rd August when Steven Adler had a felony drug case against him dismissed after successfully completing a court-order drug program.
