Biography
The 2001 'Audiodog' offering was the first solo outing for BRUCE KULICK. The man had made his reputation in the early 80s as a session player and member of HOOKFOOT, AOR cult act BLACKJACK and the GOOD RATS prior to finding fame with KISS. A lengthy tenure with the Hard Rock legends was only ended by the 1996 reunion extravaganza which saw Kulick ousted by original member ACE FREHLEY.
Kulick bounced back with UNION, a high profile collaboration with ex-SCREAM and MÖTLEY CRÜE vocalist John Corabi. UNION would issue three albums as Kulick also engaged in a high turnover profession of assembling tribute albums. Kulick would also tour Europe with German rooted Glamsters SHAMELESS. The guitarist then landed employment with another American Rock institution- GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, putting in extensive road work with the veteran act.
Kulick contributed lead guitar to the track 'Sweet FA' for a 2002 SWEET tribute album. Billed as JK'S ALL STAR EXPERIENCE, Kulick was backed on the track by an all Swedish cast consisting of REDNEX vocalist Jonas Nilsson, LION'S SHARE rhythm guitarist Lars Chriss, former EUROPE bassist John Levén and keyboard player TOMMY DENANDER of RADIOACTIVE amongst others. Solo work witnessed concerts in Melbourne and Sydney, where the guitarist favoured KISS fans with many tracks never before performed live.
In November of 2002 Kulick was still promoting the 'Audiodog' album, putting in a short run of dates in Switzerland to back up the album release there. A brand new 2003 album 'Transformer' was promoted with a run of Australian gigs in May. The guitarist assembled an all Australian band for the occasion numbering STAND personnel Paul Drennan, Stephen Crafter and Matthew MacAuliffe alongside Vince Contarino from the ZEP BOYS.
The guitarist had a close shave on 16th October, being shot in the leg. Apparently a 21-year-old man got into an argument inside the Rainbow Bar & Grill at about 1:20 a.m., grabbed a gun from his car and shot from Sunset Boulevard into a crowd at the club's patio area, injuring Kulick and one other man. Another bullet grazed his head. Fortunately Kulick was released from hospital shortly after. Fully recovered, the guitarist put in his third tour of Australia in February of 2004 and followed with Scandinavian dates in April, including an appearance at the Stockholm KISS Expo. That same month Kulick travelled to Stockholm in Sweden to track guitar solos for albums by LION'S SHARE and NARNIA singer Christian Rivel's AUDIOVISION project album 'The Calling'. Hopping into Norway, the guitarist collaborated with Glam Rockers WIG WAM on a version of 'I Was Made For Loving You' for a 'KISS Army Norway' tribute album.
Kulick featured on GENE SIMMONS 'Asshole' album, recording the KISS outtake tracks 'Weapons' and 'Carnival Of Souls'. Maintaining his KISS connections, the guitarist put in appearances at the 4th Annual Baltimore/Washington KISS Expo at the Pikesville Hilton in Baltimore, Maryland in October and the UK KISS Expo 2004 at Rock City in Nottingham in November. He would also perform a brace of gigs in Puerto Rico in October, joining forces with Rolando D'Lugo to offer a double headliners concert, "Kulick/D'Lugo: A Tribute to KISS (1984-1996)".
Kulick featured as guest player on Italian singer CHRIS CATENA's 2005 solo album 'Discovery - Return of the Galactic Freakboy' and on Finnish Heavy Metal band LORDI's 'The Arockalypse' opus.
Bruce Kulick commenced work on his third solo album in December 2006.
In a notable one off show, the guitarist took part in the 'Monster Circus' performance in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Masquerade Showroom at the Rio Suite Hotel Casino on 9th December 2008, appearing with an all-star band involving bassist Rudy Sarzo, of OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT, WHITESNAKE and DIO, frontman Dee Snider of TWISTED SISTER, Tony Montana of GREAT WHITE, Bobby Rock, of SLAUGHTER and VINNIE VINCENT INVASION, plus John Corabi, of RATT and MÖTLEY CRÜE.
Bruce Kulick made a 'BK3' limited edition EP available at his April 2009 clinics for Allans Music in Australia. The CD featured guest appearances by TOTO's Steve Lukather and John Corabi.
The full-length 'BK3' album was mastered on Thursday 16th July at Precision Mastering in Hollywood, California. 'BK3' featured guest appearances by vocalist Doug Fieger, of THE KNACK, Tobias Sammet, from EDGUY and AVANTASIA, Gene Simmons sons Nick Simmons, and former KISS cohorts Gene Simmons, who sang lead vocals on a track co-written with Kulick called 'Ain't Gonna Die', and Eric Singer.
