Biography

Long awaited, the 2001 debut solo effort from bass player extraordinaire Billy Sheehan had been on the cards for a long time. High profile stints with TALAS, UFO, DAVID LEE ROTH, his own hugely successful MR. BIG and critically acclaimed Jazz Rock unit NIACIN had kept the mop topped extravagent musician in the public eye for two decades. Featured musicians on the first album include former BADLANDS vocalist Debby Holliday, drummer extraordinaire Terry Bozzio and bassists Lance Morrison and Donnie Nossov.

The Pat Regan produced 'Compression' also includes a guest performance from Sheehan's erstwhile DAVID LEE ROTH bandmate STEVE VAI. Sheehan would join Vai's own touring band for a Summer 2001 run of G3 concerts before completing the farewell MR. BIG Japanese tour caught on the live album 'In Japan'. Sheehan was announced as performing with megastar Japanese act THE B'Z for 2002.

Sheehan formed up part of STEVE VAI's band for October 'G3 '03' North American tour dates. In October of 2004 Sheehan put in special promotional performances at Hard Rock Cafes throughout Japan to coincide with the release of a single 'Toss It On The Flame' taken from a new Pat Regan produced album 'Cosmic Troubadour'. This outing saw Simone Sello contributing guitar with Ray Luzier manning the drums. In March of 2005 Sheehan teamed up with STEVE VAI's band for a mammoth US tour.

Sheehan also found inclusion in AMAZING JOURNEY, a one-off tribute band assembled to pay homage to THE WHO. On drums would be Mike Portnoy, of DREAM THEATER repute, with Gary Cherone of VAN HALEN and EXTREME on vocals and PAUL GILBERT from MR. BIG and RACER X on guitar. This impressive quartet undertook a brief burst of US shows in May 2006. Sheehan featured on the VAN HALEN song 'Light Up The Sky' included on the tribute album '80s Metal Tribute To Van Halen' released by Deadline Records in September 2006.

Billy Sheehan released the solo album 'Holy Cow' in Japan on 22nd October 2008 via JVC Victor. The album was recorded at Billy's home studio in California and included guest players such as Billy Gibbons of ZZ TOP, Doug Pinnick from KING'S X, Paul Gilbert of MR. BIG and RACER X, and Tony MacAlpine.
