Biography

The debut ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO album 'Goodbye To Romance: Standards For A New Generation' offered Jazz infused interpretations of many Heavy Metal classics originally penned by the likes of KISS, AEROSMITH, OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK SABBATH and the SCORPIONS among others. Teaming up with Jazz Rock players John Graham Davis on double bass and drummer Matt Zebroski would be lead guitarist Alex Skolnick, a man who had made his name with artists such as SAVATAGE and TESTAMENT as well as briefly having been a member of the OZZY OSBOURNE band. Skolnick also operated his ATTENTION DEFICIT act on the Jazz Rock circuit and performs with the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA.

The ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO, now seeing Nathan Peck on bass, teamed up ex-MEGADETH guitarist MARTY FRIEDMAN and another erstwhile MEGADETH man Chris Poland's OHM band for a September 2003 'Guitarevolution' of North America. In the Spring of 2004 Skolnick would head up a "Jazz Soloing Workshop" at the American Institute of Guitar in New York City.

The ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO signed to Magna Carta Records in early 2004. A new studio album, 'Transformation', followed the pattern of the debut in paying homage to Rock veterans. Included this time around would be takes on JUDAS PRIEST's 'Electric Eye', DEEP PURPLE's 'Highway Star', IRON MAIDEN's 'The Trooper' and a Latin acoustic version of DIO's 'Don't Talk To Strangers'. Later that year the guitarist, backed by a full orchestra, would be found as guest musician with the stage production 'Jekyll & Hyde: The Concert'. He would also guest on the LAMB OF GOD 'Ashes Of The Wake' album and join up with the cast of TRANS SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA for concert dates across Eastern North America throughout November and December. Skolnick also found time to donate a guitar solo the track 'Bastille Day' for the Magna Carta 2005 RUSH tribute album 'Subdivisions'. Skolnick formed up with the "classic" era TESTAMENT for European touring in the Summer.

April 2006 found the guitarist in South Korea in April, performing with 'Jekyll & Hyde - The Concert, a 30-piece orchestra production of the hit Broadway show. In July the ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO undertook a brief tour on the East Coast alongside F5 and the MARC RIZZO.

Magnatude Records issued the 'Last Day In Paradise' album in March 2007, which included a Latin version of the TESTAMENT song 'Practice What You Preach' and a live electronica styled version of RUSH classic 'Tom Sawyer'.

In July 2008 the band put in their first career performance in New Zealand as co-headliner of the G-TARanaki International Guitar Festival in New Plymouth, Taranaki. He shared a bill with JOE SATRIANI, GLENN HUGHES, VERNON REID, GILBY CLARKE, ULI JON ROTH, GRAY BARTLETT and TIM DONAHUE.
