Biography

REKUIEM's 2005 line-up featured former TREDEGAR vocalist Paul Parry, ex-guitarist Steve Slater, bassist Gordon Denny and DIAMOND HEAD drummer Karl Wilcox. The Doom NWoBHM band is rooted in an earlier outfit dubbed REQUIEM, founded in Wolverhampton during 1979. The first version of the band comprised singer Mike Reid, ex-ARC guitarist Steve Slater, bassist Gordon Denny and drummer Karl Wilcox. They would perform on the Midlands club circuit throughout the early 80s, supporting the likes of JAMESON RAID and BUDGIE.

A three track demo preceded a 1980, self-financed 7" single 'Angel of Sin' / 'Sacrificial Wanderer'. Following this release Reid was replaced by TRESPASS frontman Steve Mills but the band folded in 1984. Wilcox formed Progressive Rock act CHASE before joining the reformed DIAMOND HEAD in 1990. Steve Slater formed PREDATOR whilst Gordon founded ROUGH JUSTICE alongside ex-STEEL frontman Paul Tunnicliffe.

Debut REKUIEM album 'Time Will Tell', released through Majestic Rock in May 2006, included a cover version of BLACK SABBATH's 'Paranoid' plus newly recorded versions of 'Angel Of Sin' and 'Sacrificial Wanderer'. Brian Tatler of DIAMOND HEAD guested on the song 'Werewolf'. Japanese versions of the album added a bonus track 'Death Row'.

REKUIEM announced plans for a second album, 'Raise The Dead', scheduled for September 2007. Joining the band as new vocalist would be Chitral Somapala, an individual with a slew of scene credits including DOMAIN, MOONLIGHT AGONY, IVANHOE and FIREWIND. Meantime, 'Time Will Tell' was re-issued in April, this upgraded version adding a bonus track and live DVD footage.

The band finally commenced work on new album recordings in July 2009.
