Biography

Hailing from Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, DREAMBREED frontman Dave Pybus was press officer for Peaceville Records. The group had evolved from Thrash Metal act DARKENED, this unit comprising Pybus, Mike Rhodes on bass and Gary Querns on drums. Both Pybus and Querns had previously been members of ANUL DEATH and also operated in MISFITS covers band THE HATEBREEDERS.

DARKENED, founded in 1989, had demoed in 1990, 'Tales From The Darker Side', but switched to DREAMBREED for a 1991 six track demo 'Life Is A Hideous Thing'. Second demo session 'Low' was recorded during 1992 with engineer Geoff Clout. Loz Pybus was announced as being installed on bass for further sessions. However, the third demo, 'Three Worlds', recorded at Academy studio's with engineer Mags in October 1993 did not in fact feature the musician. Eventually the group did locate a new bassist, drafting Paul Thornton for 1994's 'Novena' demo.

The 1995 DREAMBREED album 'Sometime' album, issued on Coast to Coast Recordings, features MY DYING BRIDE's Aaron Stainthorpe on backing vocals. Live promotion included supports to ANATHEMA, SOLSTICE, BRUCE DICKINSON, SHIP OF FOOLS, REEF and MY DYING BRIDE.

In late 1996 ANATHEMA bass player Duncan Patterson joined the fold. A further batch of demos cut in Liverpool included MISFITS cover versions 'I Turned Into A Martian', 'Night Of The Living Dead' and 'Halloween'. However, DREAMBREED played a final concert at the Bradford Underworld in July. In 1997 Dave Pybus, working with Brian Moss from DRUG FREE AMERICA and MIRAZMA, crafted 'The Misery Sessions'. This demo was re-issued the following, hosting an extra track.

Pybus later formed DREAMWEAVER and would join ANATHEMA in 1998. He subsequently joined CRADLE OF FILTH. In 2006 Dave Pybus and Brian Moss collaborated on the USONO project.

In April 2008 the 1997 demo tracks for 'Misery Sessions' were released on CD by Sixsixsix Records, adding two cuts from 1995, as a CD limited to 666 hand numbered copies.
