DAWN AFTER DARK

Biography

A Birmingham based Gothic Rock band. DAWN AFTER DARK's frontman was none other than Howard Johnson, a journalist for 'Kerrang!' magazine, who paraded his alter ego under the nom de plume of 'H'. The act was assembled during 1987 with H being joined by lead guitarist GEORGE CRAIG, rhythm guitar player Richard Bardsley, bassist David Askey and drummer Tony Henderson. Signing to Chapter 22 Records DAWN AFTER DARK traversed the UK that first year as headliners and on numerous support tours, sharing stages with the likes of BALAAM AND THE ANGEL, ALL ABOUT EVE, FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, POP WILL EAT ITSELF and WONDERSTUFF. The schedule continued into the following year guesting for DOGS D'AMOUR and LIVING COLOR. In 1989 a further headline trek was bolstered by a further nationwide set of dates opening for WOLFSBANE.

Johnson quit the group in 1990 and was eventually replaced by one Johnny Stevenson for a short British tour in July of that year. Upon completion of these gigs George Craig decamped and the band folded. Stevenson would later front KILL CITY DRAGONS. Since he departed, Howard Johnson has worked in other areas of the music industry including stints with the RCA / BMG press office, Sanctuary Management, 'Raw' magazine and was the deputy editor of 'Total Sport' magazine at one point. Guitarist GEORGE CRAIG went solo, subsequently issuing a single 'Silent Scream' on Drag Records. Johnny Stevenson relocated to New Mexico in the USA to create solo project SCORPIO 67.

DAWN AFTER DARK drummer Tony Henderson established PIGFISH in alliance with former BROOKLYN DOGS guitarist Russ Frame, releasing a string of albums through Iron Man Records. Henderson also operates with Punk band INTENTION.
