Biography

A promising British AOR styled act touting late LED ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham's son Jason, previously of AIRRACE, on the drum stool and ex-SECTOR 27 guitarist Nick Bold, VIRGINIA WOLF's debut album was produced by David Richards and QUEEN drummer ROGER TAYLOR. Bonham had also taken his father's place for the 1985 LED ZEPPELIN Live Aid reunion.

The band had been created by former PILEDRIVER guitarist NICK BOLD along with bassist Clive Corner and drummer Paul Johnson. Corner lost his position to Jeff Waters and the band also drew in vocalist Chris Ousey, tempting him away from the Manchester based MONROE. Demos piqued the interest of IAN GILLAN manager Phil Banfield who subsequently scored the band a major label deal with Atlantic Records. However, the powers that be also re-vamped the band introducing ex-THE TROGGS bassist Jo Burt, fresh from a session stint on FREDDIE MERCURY's 'Mr. Bad Guy' album, and drummer John Bonham.

With the release of debut album VIRGINIA WOLF supported THE FIRM for six weeks of American dates commencing in March of 1996. To bolster the tour the video for the track 'Waiting For Your Love' gained heavy rotation on MTV. A support tour to VAN HALEN in North America was offered but quite incredibly turned down. Following recording of a Kevin Elson produced follow up 'Push', which still managed to sell a quarter of a million copies, VIRGINIA WOLF found themselves dumped by the label and soon went their separate ways.

Nick Bold assembled THE NICK BOLD BAND, touring Europe during 1992. A solo album, 'Tales From Sparkyville', followed in 1993. Jo Burt was later to perform a European tour with BLACK SABBATH. The bassist subsequently joined the TOM ROBINSON band. Bonham later found success in America with his debut BONHAM album. Kevin Fitzpatrick later contributed keyboards to a 1986 demo by SHARK. Ousey turned up fronting another AOR act HEARTLAND releasing a string of albums.

Jason Bonham, alongside 'band' members actor Mark Wahlberg, OZZY OSBOURNE and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist ZAKK WYLDE and DOKKEN bassist Jeff Pilson, would grace the big screen in 2001 playing the drums for the fictitious STEEL DRAGON for the movie 'Rock Star'. With a combination of musicians that strong the lure to record STEEL DRAGON material for the movie was irresistible and the subsequent 'Rock Star' soundtrack CD duly featured six STEEL DRAGON tracks with Bonham performing.

In 2002 NICK BOLD launched a solo career with the album 'For A Small Fee'. That same November Jason Bonham hooked up with THE QUIREBOYS for a UK tour. Jason Bonham joined classic Rock veterans UFO in July of 2003.
