Biography

Suffolk based STEAMHAMMER started life as a Blues Rock band but veered towards heavier material with each successive release. The debut album included the single 'Junior's Wailing', later covered by Boogie merchants STATUS QUO and becoming a staple of their live set. Former TANGERINE DREAM man Steve Jolliffe on harpsichord and flute added a Jazzier element to STEAMHAMMER's sound. The band also employed former METHUSALAH man Mickey Bradley on drums.

Kieran White opted out after the second album to front NUCLEUS. For their third effort 'Mountains' STEAMHAMMER brought in ex-JODY GRIND bassist Louis Cennamo.

STEAMHAMMER's fourth album 'Speech', by which time the band was a quartet of Pugh, Bradley, Cennamo and Garth Roy-Watt, was only released in Germany. With STEAMHAMMER's demise Pugh and Quttenton found employment with ROD STEWART. Pugh later found ARMAGEDDON with Keith Relf in 1975. Cennamo joined COLOSSEUM and ILLUSION. Roy- Watt teamed up with EAST OF EDEN.
