Biography
Ex-THIN LIZZY, IMPS and PINK FLOYD guitarist Snowy White is an accomplished practitioner of classicly styled Blues Rock. Snowy White's first recorded output came in 1974 with JONATHON KELLY'S OUTSIDE album 'Waiting On You' album. His next move was to contribute guitar to 'The New World's Fair' record, released in 1975 by MICHAEL MOORCOCK & DEEP FIX. His association with PINK FLOYD began in the Autumn of 1976 as a touring musician although he would also donate the guitar solo to 'Pigs On The Wing' on the 'Animals' album. Strangely though, White's solo only appeared on 8 track cassette versions of the album.
White also played on PINK FLOYD keyboard player RICK WRIGHT 1978 debut solo album 'Wet Dreams' and would work with FLEETWOOD MAC veteran PETER GREEN. In 1980 White, after undertaking North American dateds with PINK FLOYD on their gargantuan tour for 'The Wall', joined THIN LIZZY, gracing the albums 'Chinatown' and 'Renegade'. Despite some commendable studio work, THIN LIZZY fans never took to White's less than animated stage presence and the guitarist duly left the fold.
The inaugural 1983 solo album 'White Flames' utilizes the rhythm section of bassist Kuma Harada and drummer Richard Bailey. White scored a major hit single from this record with 'Bird Of Paradise' hitting the UK top ten. In 1984 the SNOWY WHITE band consisted of White, Harada, Bailey, Keyboardists Godfrey Wang and rhythm guitarist Winston Delandro.
White re-forged his PINK FLOYD associations in 1990 by joining ROGER WATERS for his ambitious 'The Wall – Live In Berlin' concert. He would also join Waters for his 1991 performance at the Seville Guitar Expo concert. Returning to solo work the 'Highway To The Sun' album notabely featured CHRIS REA, GARY MOORE and DAVID GILMOUR. Meantime, 'Bird Of Paradise' was back in the charts in Europe during 1994 when the Dutch national KLM Airlines used the song as the main theme for an advertising campaign.
White's next solo outing 'Goldtop', titled after his favoured Gibson Les Paul 'Gold Top Standard' guitar, comprised material spanning the guitarist's career to date, including PINK FLOYD and THIN LIZZY songs.
A further album surfaced in 1998 with Snowy employing a hard edged Blues sound billed as SNOWY WHITE AND THE WHITE FLAMES. Alongside him on this recording, which includes a rework of JIMI HENDRIX's 'Little Wing' are bassist Walter Latupeirissa and drummer Juan Van Emmerloot.
White would be back with ROGER WATERS band for his 1999 and 2000 'In The Flesh' tour dates and subsequent live album. The 'Restless' solo album surfaced in 2002.
SNOWY WHITE & THE WHITE FLAMES cut a new album for 2005 release entitled 'The Way It Is'. This featured a re-recorded 'Bird Of Paradise'. For these sessions he would be joined by Walter Latupeirissa and Kuma Harada on bass, Max Middleton of the JEFF BECK band on piano, James Lascelles on Hammond organ and drummers Richard Bailey and Juan van Emmerloot.
