Biography

SNAFU ('Situation Normal: All Fucked Up') were noted exponents of the Hard Funk Blues Rock sound that would later come to the fore through guitarist MICKY MOODY's transition to WHITESNAKE. During their time SNAFU pulled rank as one of the leading acts highly rated on the live circuit and coming just a whisper short of cracking the charts. SNAFU toured in both North America and Europe opening for EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER, JO JO GUNNE, FOGHAT, THE EAGLES, THE DOOBIE BROTHERS and STATUS QUO.

The band was founded by PROCUL HARUM and FREEDOM refugee BOBBY HARRISON, former ARTHUR BROWN and PALADIN keyboard player Pete Solley and Moody on distinctive bottle neck guitar / slide guitar. Moody had left JUICY LUCY following on from their last album 'Pieces' in 1972. Bassist Colin Gibson came from LINDISFARNE and BELL & ARC whilst drummer Terry Popple had been in Blues Rockers TRAMLINE along with Moody and Australian Acid Rockers McPHEE.

For 1975's 'All Funked Up' keyboard player Brian Chatton, who came with recommendation from KEITH EMERSON, superseded Pete Solley, the latter teaming up with PROCUL HARUM in 1976. SNAFU also bolstered their sound at this juncture with the addition on piano and organ of former Alexis Korner's SNAPE and ALVIN LEE man Tim Hinckley. Saxophone touchs were added by Mel Collins. Elkie Brooks also lends her unmistakable tones as guest vocalist.

Whist undertaking a 1976 tour of Germany opening for STATUS QUO Moody was effectively poached by ex-DEEP PURPLE vocalist DAVID COVERDALE to subsequently to find global recognition in WHITESNAKE. Solley followed suit.

After numerous hit albums with WHITESNAKE Moody later formed the MOODY MARSDEN BAND with his former WHITESNAKE colleague guitarist BERNIE MARSDEN.

With SNAFU on the brink, former BAKERLOO and COLOSSEUM guitarist Clem Clempson was pulled into to plug the gap left by Moody but this union proved unfruitful and SNAFU came to a close. Popple eventually wound up with VAN MORRISON whilst Clempson joined HUMBLE PIE.

Harrison set up camp in Chicago with a new outfit titled NOBODY'S BUSINESS, a band of accomplished musiciand comprising of former FOGHAT and SAVOY BROWN man Tony Stevens, ex-OLYMPIC RUNNERS and PALADIN guitarist JOE JAMMER and erstwhile ROBIN TROWER band drummer Reg Isidore. Management for NOBODY'S BUSINESS was handled by Max Clifford, now a renowned PR expert to the stars, but the band folded.

Harrison then forged ROCKOLA together with session guitarist BRUCE GAITSCH before travelling to Iceland. Here he worked with MEZZOFORTE releasing the 'Solid Silver' album on Angel Air Records during 1997. Archive material from NOBODY'S BUSINESS was planned for release.
