Biography

SHOGUN was a stylish Hard Rock act forged during 1985. Vocalist Alan Marsh was an ex-member of the Salisbury based TOKYO BLADE, and was joined in SHOGUN by guitarist Danny Gwilym, previously with CHINATOWN and TYRANT, and the MARSEILLE credited Toby Martin on second guitar. The group would release a debut album on the Attack Music Corporation label and would open for MEAT LOAF on a British tour and for BLACK SABBATH in America. A 1986 7" single saw SHOGUN covering AMEN CORNER's 'High In The Sky'.

During 1987 SHOGUN engaged further TOKYO BLADE personnel in bassist Andy Wrighton and drummer Steve Pierce. The second album '31 Days', titled after the length of time it took to record, features drums from an uncredited Bob Richards later to join MAN. For this effort the band switched to Jet Records. Singles to promote this release would be 'Cloak And Dagger' and 'Voices From The Heart', the latter differing from the album version by way of a newly recorded track recorded at One On One Studios in Los Angeles by famed producer Bob Ezrin.

Guitarist Toby Martin was to quit in 1988, shortly followed by Wrighton. Another ex-TOKYO BLADE member, bassist Andy Robbins, replaced Wrighton whilst Alan Moore's position on keyboards was taken over by Ian Marshall. After the eventual demise of SHOGUN, Alan Marsh formed MR. ICE in 1991, which in turn evolved into TOKYO BLADE ON ICE! By 1994 this outfit had come full circle and were now known as TOKYO BLADE as Marsh had been invited back into the ranks of his former group.

Zoom Club Records re-issued the debut SHOGUN album during 1999, adding an extra bonus track in 'High In The Sky'. 2002 would find singer Alan Marsh touring the UK in the cast of the 'Jack the Ripper' musical. Danny Gwilym resurfaced in 2003 as a member of ANCIENT WONDER.
