September of 2004 brought about a surprise with the re-emergence of ex-ATOMKRAFT guitarist Rob Matthew, breaking a two decade absence from the scene. Matthew had joined ATOMKRAFT in 1985 as a teenager, featuring on the bulk of their recorded output. Issuing a press statement claiming "I personally feel that I need to let it be known of my past contribution to metal and no more be undermined by my 'old friends'... " Matthew announced the formation of his new band AGANKAST. Oddly, Matthew adopted clown facepaint for this new venture.

Initially the drums were handled by 17 year old Drew Gill but, after completion of album recordings, Gill suffered serious injuries in a mountain bike accident and Ava Robertson took over drum duties. Vocalist / bassist Allan Scott is an ex-member of Galashiels band DEATH CERTIFICATE whilst second guitarist Jimmy Manningham, just seventeen years old, was previously with WRAITH, ORGANIC PLAGUE and DEATH RAGE.The demo 'Scotlands Finest' arrived in 2005.

In mid 2005 AGANKAST witnessed a line-up change, dispensing with both Manningham and Robertson. A recovered Drew Gill returned on drums whilst Ciaran Wright from Edinburgh assumed the second guitar position.

Festival appearances announced for 2006 included the UK's 'Bloodstock Open Air' event. In June drummer Drew Gill was replaced by 18 year old James Savage. The following month band leader Rob Matthew stepped down to "concentrate now on the band's management side of things". He was superseded by Jimmy Manningham. However, Rob Matthew returned to the fold in September. Yet another change had Ryan Scott joining on drums in December.

In 2007 AGANKAST issued the album 'Walking With Angels, Running With Devils'. Subsequently Dean Cook manned the drum stool. That same year, due to "legal complications", Drew Gill, Ciaran Wright, Dean Cook and Allan Scott forged INSANITA.
