Biography

A minor supergroup, for want of a better description, PSYCHO MOTEL could boast a roster that comprised ex-URCHIN, IRON MAIDEN and A.S.A.P. guitarist Adrian Smith, former SONS OF ANGELS vocalist Hans Olav Solli, erstwhile RHODE ISLAND RED and BRITISH LIONS bassist Gary Liedermann and 21 GUNS and ASIA drummer Mike Sturgis. Both Smith and Liederman had, pre Smith's term in IRON MAIDEN, been involved in the London club act BROADWAY BRATS.

PSYCHO MOTEL was directly evolved from SKELETON SWING, a trio of Smith, Leidermann and ex-JAGGED EDGE drummer Fabio Del Rio. PSYCHO MOTEL recorded an album for the Rawpower label and actually wound up supporting IRON MAIDEN at a one off gig at Nottingham Rock City in February 1996.

The group would run its course however and after a further album appeared in Japan. Solli teamed up with ex-THIN LIZZY guitarist Scott Gorham for his second 21 GUNS album in 1997 along with Mike Sturgis and would also front Harstad based Hard Rock outfit CAT EYE for a period. Smith was to be reunited with old IRON MAIDEN buddy BRUCE DICKINSON in the self-styled 'air raid siren's latest solo outfit and the highly commendable 'The Chemical Wedding' album. Liederman joined ex-RAINBOW vocalist Dougie White's act CHAIN.

Both Dickinson and Smith rejoined IRON MAIDEN for their renaissance 'Brave New World' record. Meantime Solli marked a return in 2004 with his new band GREENHOUZE.
