Biography
Nottingham KISS tribute act DRESSED TO KILL, founded in 1990 and laying claim to being "The Longest-running KISS tribute band in the world", comprised Gary Banton as 'GENE SIMMONS', Ash Brookes as 'PAUL STANLEY', Danny James as 'ACE FREHLEY' and Rich Sawyer as 'PETER CRISS'. Clad in classic 1977 era costumes the band often performs such rarities as 'All American Man' and 'Strangeways'.
DRESSED TO KILL made their live debut on October 30th 1991 at Crystals Nightclub in Loughborough. Quite spectacularly, this first gig gained the band no less than three pages of coverage in 'Kerrang' magazine, prompting a support to TIGERTAILZ. Gigs at the famous Marquee club in London were followed by the band's appearance in front of 2000 fans at the first KISS Convention appearance at the Astoria Theatre, London in 1992. This event would be made extra special as the group got to meet KISS themselves. Another notable gig came when Polygram invited the band to play at a KISS 'Konfidential' video and 'Alive III' CD release party at The Rock Inn, Vienna. A second KISS convention showing came in November of 1993 at The Rocking Chair in Vevey, Switzerland.
In 1994 DRESSED TO KILL returned to London's Marquee, once again performing in front of GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY, in town to promote 'Kiss My Ass'. That same month they made their Scandinavian debut, selling out the 600 capacity Magasinet venue in Gothenburg, Sweden. September proved memorable too, their gig at the London KISS Convention at the Astoria II saw no less a figure than PETER CRISS himself joining the band onstage to play 'Strutter', 'Deuce' and 'Firehouse'.
DRESSED TO KILL's success even generated a full blown Japanese tour in 1996, the band playing theatres in Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Sendai, and Niigata as well as an evening at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, recorded and beamed via satellite to both Japanese and European 'receivers' of Japans' NHK television channel. On the recording front, DRESSED TO KILL contributed their rendition of 'C'mon and Love Me' to the Scandinavian tribute album 'Kissin' Time'.
DRESSED TO KILL were back on the road in 1998, and in September were once again requested to play another PolyGram Europe release party, this time for the reunited KISS' first studio album since 1979- 'Psycho Circus' - at the U4 venue in Vienna. Whilst in Austria, the band also put in a guest appearance with cult Austrian band SEX TIGER at their 'Fifteenth Anniversary' show. DRESSED TO KILL also headlined their own 'Halloween / 7th birthday special' in London on October 31st 1998, the very same night that KISS themselves began their Psycho Circus '3D' World Tour. By this time though, DRESSED TO KILL had played the title track to KISS' new album a total of three times, before KISS had played it even once live!
A line up change in 2003 saw Danny James, previously of FAHRENHEIT and fellow tribute band PARASITE, taking over the role of 'Ace'. At their October 25th gig at the KISS Expo at Rock City, Nottingham the group jammed onstage with yet another KISS veteran, guitarist Mark St. John.
Not content in simply honouring KISS alone, Ash Brookes embarked upon a whole new live venture dubbed BEING PAUL STANLEY, a tribute to the KISS frontman's solo works. A debut gig was conducted at the Hard Rock Cafe Manchester on New Year's Eve 2003. The band for the ocassion comprised Danny James and the PARASITE rhythm section of bass player Mark Phillips and drummer Carl Gibbett. A subsequent gig in February of 2004 at Nottingham's Rock City saw the band open for PRETTY BOY FLOYD.
SHOTGUN WEDDING and CITY KIDDS man Ian Danter took over on drums.
