Biography
An East Anglian Blues based Hard Rock act formed in 1987 by ex-THE GUNSLINGERS and SHATTERED drummer Pete Chicon former ZORRO, TREDEGAR, GROUNDHOGS and DUMPY'S RUSTY NUTS bassist Alan Fish and former VALHALLA and SHATTERED vocalist Ryka. Making up the band initially would be Gibraltar musician Eric The Bastard on guitars (a.k.a. Eric Chipuling).
EGYPT's single and album, a mixture of Thrash Metal with "North African/Andalusian influences" released by HTD Records, were both produced by PAUL SAMSON. EGYPT lost the services of both Ryka and Chicon, later to join BREED 77, but added drummer Peter Correa in 1991.
EGYPT made a switch to a Blues Rock format, seeing Alan Fish take over the lead vocal role. Gigging, sometimes billed as RHYTHM & GREENS, found Dick Wilson of ENDANGERED SPECIES helping out whilst drums were delegated to VHF's Chris Bennett. The band are still a going concern with band members sharing duties with Tony McPhee's THE GROUNDHOGS. The 1994 album 'Preserving The Dead' features a rendition of THE GROUNDHOGS track 'Eccentric Man'.
During 2003 Fish journeyed to Spain to work on music with former URIAH HEEP keyboard player KEN HENSLEY. A third EGYPT album, 'Midnight Sun' recorded at Purple Studios in Norwich, followed in 2004
