Biography
A highly rated Melodic Rock band that never got a true crack of the whip. MIDNIGHT BLUE were fronted by ex-TRYXTER and LA PAZ vocalist Doogie White and featured guitarist Alec Dickson (who briefly played with HEAVY PETTIN'), keyboard player Jem Davis and drummer Eddie Finchers. Bassist Niall Canning was previously with Dublin's BLACKWYCH. The latter two were both ex-TOBRUK. The band's original vocalist was Steve Docherty, who recorded the original 3 track demo before leaving in mysterious circumstances. MIDNIGHT BLUE then submitted a track,'Surrender', to the 'Best Of British Steel' compilation album in 1989.
Having opened for LITA FORD at London's Marquee club the band later gained considerable record company interest (particularly due to a worldwide publishing deal with Chrysalis) under the guidance of John Arnison of the MARILLION management team. Ultimately, MIDNIGHT BLUE failed to live up to their promise despite some very classy songs and regular sell out shows in London.
Jem Davis later went on to roadie for W.A.S.P. and played keyboards on UFO's 'High Stakes' tour prior to joining FM. White, after spells with JAN CYRKA, SOLE ASYLUM and fronting a Japanese tour for PRAYING MANTIS formed CHAIN in 1992 before joining ex-DEEP PURPLE guitarist RITCHIE BLACKMORE in an incarnation of RAINBOW in 1994. Following just one album 'Stranger In Us All' although he left the group two years later.
Dickson joined GUN then the BRUCE DICKINSON band. By 2000 the guitarist was a member of Pop star ROBBIE WILLIAMS band and put in a guest spot on the 2000 SACK TRICK album 'Penguins On The Moon'. Dickson and White would reunite for White's 2001 ICE project album.
An album's worth of demos has been awaiting release by Now And Then Records since 1993, but despite the appearence of one track from the record on a compilation 'taster' released by Now And Then we appear to be no nearer to witnessing its release.
White hooked up with M3, the band of WHITESNAKE exiles guitarists MICKY MOODY and BERNIE MARSDEN, for Summer 2004 gigs. White also donated his vocals to tracks on Japanese guitarist TAKAYOSHI OMURA's debut album 'Nowhere To Go'. The singer rounded out the year by uniting with MOSTLY AUTUMN members Ian Jennings, Liam Davison and guitarist Bryan Josh to form up WHITE NOISE as support act to URIAH HEEP's UK tour.
Doogie White joined the ranks of NWoBHM band TANK in December 2008.
