Biography
Ex-ANGEL WITCH men Dave Dufort and Kevin Riddles formed London based Heavy Metal outfit TYTAN in September 1981. The original incarnation of the band comprised of Dufort, Riddles, vocalist Kal Swann and guitarists Steve Gibbs and Stewartie Adams. Dufort had, previous to ANGEL WITCH, amassed quite a history in the Rock world with bands stretching back into the early 60's including THE VOICE, THE SCENERY, MIKE OLDFIELD and KEVIN AYERS. The drummer was also involved in NW0BHMers the E.F. BAND. Despite a fanfare of press Adams left within months and later turned up fronting LYIN' RAMPANT. He was superseded by ex-A II Z man Gary Owens.
TYTAN received substantial major record company interest, but opted to sign with indie Kamaflage Records and laid down plans to release the 'Blind Men And Fools' single during 1982 in advance of a proposed album. Unfortunately, despite the album being recorded albeit without Gary Owens who quit the group in the summer of 1982, Kamaflage Records went under before it could be released. It would not be before 1985 when the album, aptly titled 'Rough Justice', finally emerged through the Metal Masters label.
Dave Dufort also quit and following his departure from the group Dufort re-christened himself Richie D'For and formed NEVADDA FOXX (originally titled KAMIKAZE) with vocalist former DEEP MACHINE and ANGEL WITCH Roger Marsden, guitarist Chris Mallia and bassist Richard Vernon. Dufort went on to form TROY and the highly rated 'Glam-Power' act PHANTASM in league with BLADERUNNER guitarist Gary Jones before changing his name to Herman Jerian and recording historical theme music based on Richard the Lionheart.
TYTAN meanwhile were forced to rely on outside help to keep active as the long awaited 'Blind Men And Fools' was finally released during September 1982. The band roped in hired hands in the form of ex-LIAR, WILD HORSES and LIONHEART guitarist Steve Mann and ex-JUDAS PRIEST and LIONHEART drummer Les Binks. The band toured Britain opening for the TYGERS OF PAN TANG in October 1982 as TYTAN eventually recruited a permanent drummer in Tony Boden. However, Boden's stay was short lived and he was eventually replaced by ex-TORA TORA and A II Z drummer Simon Wright, after reports had originally surfaced that another ex-A II Z drummer, Karl Reti, had been in the frame for the job.
However, TYTAN would eventually drift apart as, in July 1983, Simon Wright auditioned for AC/DC and got the job, later joining DIO then MR. RUDE and UFO, whilst Gibbs joined CHINATOWN.
Swann later relocated to Los Angeles to form LION with ex-STEELER drummer MARK EDWARDS, ex-LONE STAR guitarist Tony Smith and bassist Arthur Campbell. With LION Swann found considerable success in Japan and continued to enjoy the loyalty of a huge fan following with the subsequent BAD MOON RISING. Mann would join the MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP.
The Majestic Rock label would re-issue the 'Rough Justice' album in February of 2004.
