Biography

PINK FAIRIES have a lengthy and disparate career with many comings and goings. The music is loud and abrasive, blending heavy guitarwork with overt psychedelia. PINK FAIRIES often toured with HAWKWIND and formed the jamming band PINKWIND on more than one occasion. Indeed, Paul Rudolph eventually joined HAWKWIND for the 'Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music' album.

Ex FAIRIES, PRETTY THINGS member Twink's association with the PINK FAIRIES started when he formed the group in the late 60s with T-REX drummer Steve Peregrine Took and DEVIANTS vocalist Michael Farren. Adopting the title of SHAGRAT THE VAGRANT, the trio appeared on Farren's debut solo album 'Mona The Carnivorous Circus' on Transatlantic Records in 1970.

Twink released a solo album, 'Think Pink' on Polydor before forming PINK FAIRIES with Farren and Sanderson - also ex-DEVIANTS - to release 'Never Neverland' in 1971. Both TWINK and latter day PINK FAIRIES man guitarist Larry Wallis would aid HAWKWIND collaborator STEVE PEREGRINE TOOK on his solo album 'Crazy Diamond'.

By 1972 Twink had been ejected, later joining STARS before an excursion to Morocco. His position was filled by erstwhile MOVE guitarist Trevor Burton for the band's most commercially successful album 'What A Bunch Of Sweeties' in 1972.

Prior to the 'Well, Well, Well' single Rudolph split to join UNCLE DOG and was duly replaced by ex JUNIOR EYES guitarist Mick Wayne . The 'Kings Of Oblivion' album featured ex-UFO, SHAGRAT and BLODWYN PIG guitarist Larry Wallis, who soon split to join MOTÖRHEAD.

Actually, the MOTÖRHEAD 'No Parole' album featured the Wallis track 'City Kids' that first appeared on 'Kings Of Oblivion'. Wallis also released his own solo single, 'Police Car', on Stiff Records.

PINK FAIRIES split, only to reform with Twink to play the London Roundhouse in 1975, which in turn became the live album released in 1982. Twink was soon out on his ear and replaced by ex ACTION and MIGHTY BABY guitarist Martin Stone, who debuted on the 'Between The Lines' single. The next PINK FAIRIES album was launched under the monicker of MICK FARREN AND THE DEVIANTS, but was in fact the PINK FAIRIES with Farren on vocals.

Farren later released a solo album for Logo Records in 1978 titled 'Vampires Stole My Lunch Money', whilst Sanderson joined LIGHTNING RAIDERS. Twink joined Punk Rock band THE RINGS before touring America fronting PLASTICLAND.

The PINK FAIRIES reformed with Twink and Larry Wallis to record 'Kill Em, Eat Em' in 1988 before Twink jumped ship once more to join MAGIC MUSCLE, releasing the 1989 live album 'One Hundred Miles Below'.

A PINK FAIRIES concert was announced for January 22nd, 2007 at the London Roundhouse. However, the show was cancelled when guitarist Larry Wallis sustained a back injury. A management statement said "Larry has tried Osteopathy, Acupuncture, Chinese Massage and strong drugs, all to no avail. Short of sacrificing a goat and dancing in the woods, he's run out of options... "
