Biography
Originally a loose outfit of musicians STREETWALKERS were forged after FAMILY's farewell 1973 tour by vocalist Roger Chapman and guitarist Charles Whitney. Joining them were other FAMILY colleagues JOHN WETTON and Jim Cregan, former JEFF BECK, HUMMINGBIRD and GASS guitarist Bob Tench, bassist Phil Chen, CHARGE guitarist Neil Hubbard, ex JODY GRIND keyboard player Tim Hinkley and KING CRIMSON men saxophonist Mel Collins, bassist Boz Burrell and drummer Ian Wallace.
A more stable union was established for the second record, a more R&B tinged affair, with ex CASABLANCA bassist John Plotel and ex AXE drummer Nicko McBrain. Keyboards were supplied by BLOODSTONE man Pete Wingfield. Wallace & Collins meanwhile had packed their bags for ALVIN LEE & CO.
Third album 'Red Card' scored well with sales enough to give the band a top twenty album in Britain and successive touring in Europe.
The band fractured with McBrain travelling onto join PAT TRAVERS, BLAZER BLAZER, MARSHALL FURY and French Heavy Metallers TRUST. McBrain would then to enjoy over a decade's considerable success with IRON MAIDEN.
The STREETWALKERS last attempt 'Vicious But Fair' had Chapman and Whitney in union with bassist Mickey Feat, keyboard player Brian Johnson and drummer Dave Dowle. Rumoured business problems behind the scenes finally killed the band off after this release but a live album proved to be their swansong.
Johnson and Dowle allied themselves with ex DEEP PURPLE star DAVID COVERDALE's early version of WHITESNAKE. Tench went onto work with VAN MORRISON. Whitney formed AXIS POINT for two albums. In 1980 Feat joined the ALVIN LEE BAND for the 'Free Fall' album.
himself remains hugely popular as a solo artist in Germany coincidently often employing the services of ALVIN LEE as guitarist.
By 1989 Tench was a member of the GB BLUES CO. alongside ex DOG SOLDIER guitarist Derek Griffiths and former ARGENT bass player Jim Rodford.
