Biography
JERUSALEM's eponymous 1972 album was produced by DEEP PURPLE frontman Ian Gillan. The band toured Europe extensively, sharing festival stages with URIAH HEEP, STATUS QUO and BLACK SABBATH but would fold by 1973. Rhythm guitarist Bill Hinde died in a car crash in the mid seventies.
Band founders bassist Paul Dean and drummer Ray Sparrow duly formed PUSSY in league with Bob Cooke to release the Ian Gillan produced 'Feline Woman' single for Deram Records. PUSSY signed to Ariola Records to record an album. However, Cooke exited and was replaced by American guitarist Brian Goff, who duly re-tracked all the guitar parts. Ian Gillan provided backing vocals. Unfortunately the sessions were never released. PUSSY folded and Goff joined THE SIGHTS.
Dean subsequently featured with Pauline Gillan on the 1984 GILLAN/DEAN album 'Rocks On'.
JERUSALEM members set about recording new album tracks in 2007. The recording roster comprised original members singer Lynden Williams and guitarist Bob Cooke plus the ASIA and YES credited Geoff Downes, drummer Nick D'Virgilio, of SPOCK'S BEARD, bassist Dave Meros, also of SPOCK'S BEARD, and Pete Trewavas, from MARILLION. Meantime, Rockadrome Records re-issued the 'Jerusalem' album in January 2009.
