Biography

In October of 2004 the erstwhile BLAZE contingent of guitarists John Slater and Steve Wray plus bassist Rob Naylor united with vocalist Harry Armstrong of HANGNAIL, MOURN, DECOMPOSED and END OF LEVEL BOSS with VEX RED and SACK TRICK man Ben Calvert on drums to forge RISE TO ADDICTION. Slater also held earlier credits as a member of STORMWATCH and MINDFEED whilst Naylor also had association with A.O.K. and SAM THUNDER. Armstrong, as bassist, also operated avantgarde Rockers THE WINCHESTER CLUB.

Upon announcement of this new band, based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, the players entered Backstage studios in Derbyshire with SABBAT guitarist Andy Sneap to lay down demos, subsequently released as the 'Rise To Addiction' EP. The first 100 copies were autographed by the band. RISE TO ADDICTION signed to Madman Records in June 2005 to achieve greater distribution for the EP. Both Calvert and Armstrong bowed out, being superseded by singer Leigh Oates, of NINEDENINE, and drummer Aynsley Dickinson, previously of NINEDENINE and HARDWARE.

Album sessions, once more utilising Sneap's services, commenced in early October. Bassist Rob Naylor exited in March 2006, to pursue a career as a commercial airline pilot, being replaced by Joel Graham of BIAS and NINEDENINE. RISE TO ADDICTION undertook UK touring throughout October and November.

The band signed to Belgian label Mausoleum Records in February 2007. The band's debut album, 'A New Shade Of Black For The Soul', was once again produced by Andy Sneap. European dates in May to coincide with the release had the group acting as support to Chicago Doom veterans TROUBLE.

RISE TO ADDICTION self-produced sessions for a second album in June 2008.
