Biography

A tentative and anonymous step back into the public arena for two of Rock's foremost elite- the LED ZEPPELIN duo of vocalist ROBERT PLANT and guitarist JIMMY PAGE. Initially a casual club act assembled by Plant the band, titled after a ROOSEVELT SYKES Blues standard, consisted of erstwhile BRONCO, STEVE GIBBONS BAND, SAVOY BROWN and SILVERHEAD guitarist Robbie Blunt, second guitarist Andy Sylvester, bassist Jim Wickman and drummer Kevin O'Neill. Other members saw Ricky Cool employed on harp and saxophonist Keith Evans. Keeping matters deliberately low key Plant took his band out on an English tour of pubs and clubs. LED ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham's son Jason Bonham took the drum stool for a local gig at Dudley JB's club.

With the close of ROBERT PLANT's first solo world tour of 1983 THE HONEYDRIPPERS, this time with STRAY CATS man Brian Setzer on guitar, would reconvene for a one off U.S. TV appearance for 'Saturday Night Live'. They would perform again, albeit billed as THE SKINNYDIPPERS, at a benefit concert in Monmouth, a benefit for a blinded police officer, with a band comprising of Plant, Sylvester, Martinez, Woodruffe, Ray Martinez and drummer Ritchie Hayward from Plant's solo band and LITTLE FEAT.

Although ostensibly an ad hoc grouping Plant would retain THE HONEYDRIPPERS title for a 1984 mini-album that saw the inclusion of guitar legend JEFF BECK. Although issued without credits the record soon raced up the American charts as word spread as to its originators.

In 2007 Robert Plant recreated THE HONEYDRIPPERS for a February 14th benefit show at Dudley JB's club. The concert, billed as "An Evening Of Rhythm And Blues", helped pay for his friend, Kidderminster woman Jackie Jennings, to have life-saving Proton Beam therapy in Boston. Plant, billed as THE HONEYDRIPPERS performed at Dudley JB's on February 15th 2007 to celebrate Plant sound engineer Roy Williams' 60th birthday. JEFF BECK put in a surprise showing for three songs.
